Balancing aesthetics and structural safety in artistic UHPC forms is a systematic project requiring architects and engineers to work in close collaboration, achieved through a triple technical path of "form-finding – structural optimization – material reinforcement." In projects such as the "Dongguan sedge weaving" facade of the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center and the wave-shaped roof of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong Group combined parametric generative design with finite element analysis, keeping the structural safety factor above 2.5 while preserving visual tension, achieving a perfect fusion of art and technology.
Structural genes are embedded right at the form-finding stage. Mechanically driven generative algorithms are used so that the form naturally follows load flow transfer paths. In the hyperbolic ribbon design of the Nanning New Media Center, particle-spring system simulation generated structural forms that are both beautiful and efficient, reducing stress concentration. Process constraints are also set, such as a minimum curvature radius of ≥300mm and a demolding angle of ≥3°, to ensure constructability. The Qinglong team interacts with architects in real time, avoiding "unbuildable" designs at the early scheme stage and reducing later reinforcement costs at the source.
Structural optimization is a key step. Through topology optimization technology, non-critical areas are rationally hollowed out, reducing weight without compromising strength. In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, load analysis was performed on the lantern-shaped form, and decorative openings were placed in low-stress zones, cutting weight by 20% while enhancing the artistic effect. For weak areas, such as acute-angle junctions, load-bearing capacity is improved through local thickening, stiffening ribs, or embedded reinforcing fibers. Finite element analysis ensures deformation under ultimate load of ≤L/250.
Material performance is the cornerstone of this balance. Qinglong UHPC achieves a flexural strength of 18-25MPa, five times that of ordinary concrete, making thin-section design possible. Oriented fiber distribution technology enhances toughness along the principal stress directions. Safety is ultimately verified through 1:1 full-scale loading tests. This whole-process collaborative design makes UHPC artistic forms both stunning and reliable.
