The mold development cycle for UHPC shaped components is influenced by multiple factors such as design complexity, mold materials, and processing techniques, typically ranging from 7 to 30 days. Based on extensive project data, Qinglong Group reports that simple flat panel molds require 7-10 days, moderately complex curved surface molds take 15-20 days, and highly difficult double-curved or openwork molds may extend to 25-30 days. Through standardized modules, concurrent engineering, and intelligent machining technology, we have successfully reduced the mold development cycle by an average of 30%. For example, the lantern-shaped molds for the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater project were completed in just 22 days using five-axis CNC group machining.
The mold development cycle depends primarily on design complexity. Simple geometric shapes can use standardized aluminum molds or GRP molds, which are quick to produce; complex free-form surfaces require tooling board or resin molds machined by CNC precision carving. In the Hainan Changying Global 100 Theme Park project, Qinglong Group applied 3D printing rapid prototyping combined with silicone mold replication technology for irregular sculptural components, compressing mold trial time from 2 weeks to 5 days. Mold size also affects the cycle: large molds (over 3 meters) require segmented machining followed by assembly, adding to the workload.
The choice of mold material directly affects production efficiency. Steel molds have a long service life but are slow to machine (15-25 days), making them suitable for mass production; resin molds have shorter cycles (7-15 days) and suit small to medium batches. Qinglong Group has established a mold material library to select materials scientifically based on production volume and complexity. Innovations in machining have greatly improved efficiency: with the introduction of five-axis simultaneous machining centers, 24-hour uninterrupted operation is achieved, allowing multiple molds to be machined at the same time. Under concurrent engineering management, design, programming, and material preparation proceed in parallel, reducing waiting time.
The key to accelerating mold development lies in early-stage optimization. DFM (Design for Manufacturability) analysis helps avoid structures that cannot be demolded; parametric design enables rapid generation of mold data; and a library of common shape molds reduces the number of new molds required. Through these measures, Qinglong Group continuously improves mold development efficiency while ensuring quality, gaining valuable time for the overall project schedule.
