The detachable connection of GRC curtain walls is designed to enable later replacement, maintenance, or recycling of components. It is achieved primarily through three technical approaches: modular design, reversible connectors, and standardized joint construction, ensuring that connections are safe and reliable while allowing easy disassembly. Qinglong, an enterprise holding special engineering (structural reinforcement) qualifications, has implemented detachable connections in multiple customized projects, providing great convenience for later operation and maintenance.
Modular design: component splitting and interface standardization lay the foundation for detachability. The prerequisite for detachable connections is the modular splitting of GRC curtain wall components. Qinglong follows the principles of "clear load paths, regular dimensions, and unified interfaces": components are split by functional or shape units, with each component's weight kept within 50kg (manually portable) or 200kg (mechanically liftable) to avoid disassembly difficulties caused by oversized components; component interfaces are designed in standardized forms (such as grooved or tenon types) and paired with universal connectors to ensure interchangeability between different batches of components. For the GRC decorative curtain wall of a commercial complex, Qinglong split it into standardized 120mm×800mm modules with grooved interfaces of unified specifications, so replacing a single component later takes only 30 minutes. Modular design not only facilitates disassembly but also improves production efficiency and installation precision.
Reversible connectors: reusable connection methods are selected to avoid destructive disassembly. Reversible connectors commonly used by Qinglong include: stainless steel bolt connections (bolt + nut + flat washer + spring washer combination), where bolt holes are pre-reserved in GRC components and connected to the main structure's framework via bolts—disassembly only requires loosening the nuts, with no risk of damaging components; clip connections (stainless steel dry-hanging clips + adjusting bolts), where clips are connected to components through clamping slots and adjusting bolts allow fine-tuning of component position—loosening the adjusting bolts allows the component to be removed; pin connections (stainless steel pins + sleeves), where pins are inserted into pre-reserved holes in components and the framework—disassembly simply requires pulling out the pins, suitable for small components. In the auditorium renovation project of the American International School of Guangzhou, the GRC curtain wall adopted a composite reversible connection of bolts + clips. Later, due to functional adjustments, some components needed replacement; Qinglong completed the disassembly and replacement of 15 components in just 2 days, with all components intact and reusable. Reversible connectors must be made of corrosion-resistant materials (304/316L stainless steel) to ensure long-term performance without failure.
Standardized joint construction: reserved operation space and anti-loosening design balance convenience and safety. Detachable joints require sufficient reserved operation space (≥100mm) to allow tools to reach and disassemble the connectors. Qinglong optimizes component layout during joint design to prevent the operation space from being blocked; meanwhile, anti-loosening devices (such as self-locking nuts, cotter pins, and lock washers) are installed to prevent connectors from loosening due to vibration during long-term use, which would compromise structural safety. For the detachable GRC curtain wall joints of an office building, Qinglong reserved 120mm of operation space and adopted dual anti-loosening with self-locking nuts + spring washers. Vibration testing showed no loosening of connectors, and disassembly requires no special tools—just an ordinary wrench. If joint construction does not reserve operation space, disassembly would require destroying components or surrounding structures, defeating the purpose of detachability; lack of anti-loosening design would lead to safety hazards.
Standardized disassembly procedures: operating manuals are prepared to avoid damaging components and structures. Qinglong prepares dedicated disassembly manuals for each detachable GRC curtain wall project, with clear procedures: first remove the sealant → loosen the connectors → remove the component → protect the component and interfaces → install the new component → re-seal. During disassembly, note the following: avoid prying components with brute force to prevent damage to edges and corners; place removed components on dedicated supports to avoid surface scratches; protect interface areas to prevent dust and debris from entering. In a municipal landscape project, Qinglong disassembled GRC decorative components following the manual procedures, achieving a 100% disassembly rate and a component integrity rate ≥95%, realizing resource recycling. Standardized procedures are the guarantee for implementing detachable connections, avoiding component damage or safety accidents caused by improper operation.
The detachable connection of GRC curtain walls achieves full life-cycle management of "installation-use-replacement-recycling", in line with green building development concepts. Qinglong's modular design, reversible connectors, and standardized joint construction have been verified in multiple projects, ensuring both connection safety and enhanced maintenance convenience. For owners and designers, detachable connections can reduce later maintenance costs and improve resource utilization. Choosing a manufacturer with detachable connection design and construction capabilities is an important guarantee for a project's long-term value, and Qinglong uses its professional expertise to bring greater flexibility to GRC curtain walls.
