Waterproofing treatment of GRC curtain walls is key to ensuring building functionality, requiring a four-layer protection system of "component self-waterproofing + joint sealing waterproofing + drainage system waterproofing + surface protection waterproofing". Combining material properties with construction techniques, it blocks water penetration paths at the source. As the contractor of large-scale integrated waterproofing projects such as the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong has accumulated extensive experience in GRC curtain wall waterproofing. Its waterproofing solutions have been verified against industry standards, achieving long-term leak-free performance.
Component self-waterproofing: enhancing density and impermeability to block water seepage at the source. The self-waterproofing performance of GRC components depends on material formulation and production processes. Qinglong selects low-alkali cement and continuously graded quartz sand, adds an appropriate amount of waterproofing agent, and optimizes the water-cement ratio to 0.4-0.5. Through a high-pressure spray molding process (pressure 0.3-0.5MPa), the internal density of components reaches ≥95%, porosity ≤8%, and impermeability grade ≥P8. The 15mm-thick GRC carved panels of the Wuhan Han Show Theater achieved a water penetration height of ≤30mm in impermeability tests, far exceeding the industry standard of 50mm. Component self-waterproofing is the foundation; if density is insufficient, moisture will penetrate through capillary pores, and even the best external sealing cannot fundamentally resolve leakage. Qinglong uses intelligent constant-temperature curing kilns to further enhance the hydration degree of components and improve impermeability.
Joint sealing waterproofing: selecting specialized sealing materials to ensure leak-free joints. The joints, internal and external corners, and interfaces between components and the main structure are weak points in waterproofing. Qinglong adopts a "double sealing + backing" process: the first layer is butyl waterproof tape (width ≥50mm) applied to both sides of the joint, providing initial sealing and buffering; the second layer is neutral silicone weather-resistant sealant (modulus ≤0.4MPa) filling the joint completely. The sealant must be compatible with the GRC surface, non-corrosive, with a service life ≥15 years. The 120,000-square-meter GRC roof of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center contains thousands of joints. Through this sealing process, combined with specialized flattening tools to ensure the sealant adheres tightly to component surfaces without bubbles or hollowing, no leakage has occurred in the years since it was put into use. Improper sealant selection or non-standard construction leads to sealing failure, which is one of the main causes of GRC curtain wall leakage.
Drainage system waterproofing: designing scientific drainage paths to quickly discharge rainwater. Double-curved and irregular GRC curtain walls are prone to water accumulation, requiring a well-designed drainage system. Qinglong adopts a combined "external drainage + internal guided drainage" approach: drainage channels (width ≥20mm, slope ≥3%) are set at horizontal joints of the curtain wall, with rainwater flowing along the channels to vertical drainage outlets; vertical drainage risers are installed at intervals ≤6m, with filter screens added to drainage outlets to prevent blockage; water guide grooves are reserved on the back of components to direct small amounts of infiltrated rainwater to the drainage system. For the twisted double-curved GRC curtain wall of the Guangxi New Media Center, due to its complex shape, Qinglong used BIM technology to simulate rainwater flow paths and optimize the layout of drainage channels and outlets, ensuring no water accumulation during heavy rain and improving drainage efficiency by 30%. Unreasonable drainage system design leads to rainwater accumulation, increased water pressure, and breakthrough of the sealing line of defense.
Surface protection waterproofing: applying penetrating protective agents to enhance water repellency. Applying a penetrating silane protective agent to the GRC curtain wall surface penetrates 3-5mm into the component, blocking capillary pores and forming a water-repellent layer without affecting surface breathability. The protective agent selected by Qinglong is UV-resistant and aging-resistant, with a service life ≥8 years. High-pressure spraying is used during construction to ensure uniform coverage, with a dosage ≥0.3kg/㎡. For the GRC curtain wall panels of the Sichuan Panzhihua Third Front Construction project, after applying the protective agent, the water absorption rate dropped from 8% to below 3%, effectively resisting rainwater penetration and salt fog corrosion. Surface protection not only improves waterproofing performance but also enhances component stain resistance and reduces maintenance costs.
Waterproofing treatment of GRC curtain walls requires "multiple lines of defense and comprehensive treatment"; the absence of any single link can lead to leakage. Qinglong's four-layer waterproofing system, from the components themselves to external protection, forms a closed loop across the entire process, and has been verified in projects in rainy, high-humidity regions such as Hainan and Guangxi. For owners and designers, waterproofing treatment is the core of long-term stable use of GRC curtain walls, and choosing a manufacturer with systematic waterproofing solutions is crucial. With professional technology and extensive practice, Qinglong provides reliable waterproofing protection for every project.
