Double-curved GRC curtain walls, due to their complex shapes, concealed joints, and the difficulty of high-altitude work, face many unique challenges in operation and maintenance, mainly concentrated in four major areas: inspection accessibility, concealed joint troubleshooting, damage repair precision, and tool adaptability. Qinglong, an enterprise with 28 years of after-sales maintenance experience, has developed a set of targeted solutions through technological innovation and process optimization, successfully ensuring the long-term stable operation of projects such as Hainan Poly Peninsula No. 1 and the Guangxi New Media Center.
Poor inspection accessibility and high risks of high-altitude work. Double-curved GRC curtain walls are mostly applied to landmark buildings, often exceeding 50 meters in height. The curved shapes offer no flat working surfaces, making traditional scaffolding difficult and costly to erect, while conventional high-altitude work equipment (such as gondolas) cannot move along the curved surfaces, leaving some areas uninspectable. Qinglong adopts a combined solution of "drone inspection + spider lift precision operations": drones equipped with high-definition cameras and thermal imagers conduct full-coverage preliminary inspections of the curtain walls, identifying visible problems such as surface cracks and sealant aging; for areas with suspected hazards, spider lifts (articulated boom aerial work platforms) are used, whose flexible booms can move along the double-curved surfaces, allowing workers to inspect at close range. In the operation and maintenance of the Guangxi New Media Center project, drone inspection achieved 100% coverage, and the spider lift precisely located 3 hazard points, improving inspection efficiency while reducing high-altitude work risks.
Numerous concealed joints make hazard troubleshooting difficult. The connection joints, waterproofing seals, and other elements of double-curved GRC curtain walls are mostly hidden on the inner side of the curved surfaces or at component splicing points, difficult to observe with the naked eye and prone to forming "invisible hazards" such as loosened anchor bolts, weld corrosion, and sealant aging and peeling. Qinglong establishes a "digital joint archive" during the construction phase, recording the position and parameters of every connection joint and sealed area through BIM technology; during operation and maintenance, endoscopes and ultrasonic detectors are used to inspect concealed areas: endoscopes observe sealant aging, while ultrasonic detectors check the anchoring strength of anchor bolts and weld quality. In the double-curved GRC curtain wall of Hainan Poly Peninsula No. 1, inspection found 2 slightly loosened anchor bolts, which were reinforced promptly to prevent the problem from escalating. The lack of digital archives and professional equipment can easily lead to missed concealed hazards, and their long-term accumulation can trigger safety accidents.
High precision requirements for damage repair make matching difficult. Damage repair of double-curved GRC curtain walls must ensure that the repaired area matches the curvature of the original surface and has uniform texture, which conventional repair methods struggle to match precisely. Qinglong's repair process includes "3D scanning and modeling - custom repair molds - replication of original material formulas - fine construction and polishing": 3D laser scanning obtains surface data of the damaged area to create repair molds consistent with the original surface; the same material formula as the original components (low-alkali cement, alkali-resistant glass fiber, mineral pigments) is used to ensure matching strength and texture; after repair, polishing achieves a surface flatness tolerance of ≤±1mm, seamlessly joining with the original surface. In a scratch repair project for a double-curved GRC curtain wall, Qinglong's process achieved a curvature tolerance of ≤±2mm between the repaired area and the original component, with a texture fidelity of over 95%, virtually indistinguishable to the naked eye. Insufficient repair precision can damage the integrity of the overall curved surface and affect the decorative effect.
Insufficient adaptability of special tools and low efficiency of conventional tools. The surface curvature of double-curved GRC curtain walls varies greatly, and conventional inspection tools (such as 2m straightedges) and repair tools cannot be used against the curved surfaces, resulting in inaccurate inspection data and poor repair results. Qinglong has independently developed special tools adapted for double-curved curtain walls: flexible inspection rulers can fit surfaces of any curvature to measure flatness errors; curved-surface grinders adapt to surface treatment of different curvatures by adjusting the grinding head angle; sealant injection guns are equipped with curved nozzles to inject sealant deep into concealed splicing joints. The application of these special tools has increased the inspection efficiency of double-curved GRC curtain walls by 40% and achieved a 100% repair pass rate.
The operation and maintenance of double-curved GRC curtain walls requires the trinity of "technology + experience + tools". With digital archive management, professional equipment configuration, special tool development, and standardized repair processes, Qinglong effectively resolves the four major challenges and provides full life-cycle maintenance services for projects. For owners, choosing a manufacturer with double-curved GRC curtain wall operation and maintenance capabilities is key to ensuring the building's long-term safety and aesthetics. Guided by the principle of "meticulous work and constant striving for excellence", Qinglong safeguards every project.
