GRC decorative panel color variation directly affects the uniformity of a building's appearance and can easily create a cluttered visual effect. Control measures must be taken across the entire process of raw materials, production, and construction to ensure color consistency. Drawing on extensive project experience in color variation control, Qinglong breaks down the core solutions and practical approaches.
1. Core Causes of Color Variation
Color variation arises from the combined effects of raw materials, production processes, and environmental factors. Regarding raw materials, batch differences in cement, aggregates, and pigments cause color fluctuations—a pigment dosage deviation of just ±1% produces noticeable color variation. Regarding production processes, uneven mixing and inconsistent curing conditions (differences in temperature and humidity) lead to variations in color depth; Qinglong's test data show that a curing temperature difference of 5°C can produce a component color difference (ΔE) of up to 1.5. Regarding construction, disordered installation sequences and uneven surface cleanliness can create the visual illusion of color variation—for example, the Sanya Festival Plaza project initially showed localized color differences due to construction sequencing issues.
2. Raw Material Control: Preventing Color Variation at the Source
Raw material consistency is the foundation of color variation control. Use cement and aggregates from the same manufacturer and the same batch, and conduct color comparison tests upon delivery—materials exceeding the deviation limit are prohibited from use. Select high-quality inorganic pigments and precisely control the dosage within an error of ≤±0.2%, using automated metering equipment to avoid manual dosing errors. Establish a raw material color sample library and produce a color panel for each batch of raw materials, comparing it against the standard color panel; only materials with a color difference ΔE ≤ 0.5 may be used. In the Dongting Lake Museum GRC faux stone project, Qinglong reduced color variation risk at the source through strict raw material control.
3. Precise Color Variation Control in the Production Process
Standardized production processes ensure color consistency. Use automated mixing equipment with the mixing time controlled at 4-5 minutes to ensure thorough material blending. Standardize curing conditions by using constant-temperature, constant-humidity curing chambers, with temperature controlled at 20-25°C and humidity at ≥90%, avoiding color differences caused by natural curing. Produce components of the same batch in concentrated production runs to avoid color fluctuations across batches. During production, make a color panel every 2 hours and compare it with the standard color panel, adjusting promptly when deviations are found. Through full-process production quality control, Qinglong keeps the color difference ΔE of same-batch components within 1.0.
4. Color Variation Optimization in Construction and Post-Treatment
Standardized construction and post-treatment further eliminate color variation. Before construction, classify components by color and install them in order of color depth to avoid a disorderly color distribution. After installation, uniformly clean the surfaces to remove dust and stains, ensuring true color presentation. Minor color variation can be corrected with surface tinting, using special color paste for localized repairs, while severe color variation requires component replacement. Carry out regular maintenance afterward, applying a protective agent uniformly to keep color brightness consistent. In the Zhongshan Yajule Fandeng project, Qinglong effectively resolved color variation issues by combining construction with post-treatment, ensuring the uniformity of the building's appearance.
