The bonding quality between GRC decorative panels and the substrate directly affects component stability. Improper adhesive selection can easily lead to hazards such as detachment and hollowing, so adhesives must be precisely selected based on substrate material, load conditions, and service environment. Drawing on 28 years of construction experience, Qinglong analyzes adhesive selection criteria and practical solutions.
I. Core Criteria for Adhesive Selection
Adhesive selection must match the substrate material and application scenario. Regarding substrate materials: for concrete substrates, polymer cement mortar adhesive is preferred, with bond strength ≥1.5MPa; for steel structure substrates, epoxy-based adhesive with good metal adhesion is required; for aerated concrete substrates, flexible adhesive should be used to accommodate substrate deformation and prevent cracking. Regarding load conditions: lightweight GRC panels (weight ≤50kg/㎡) use standard polymer adhesive; medium-weight components (50-100kg/㎡) use high-strength epoxy adhesive; heavy components (>100kg/㎡) require mechanical fixing, with adhesive serving only as auxiliary support. In its R&D project in Qingpu, Shanghai, Qinglong precisely matched adhesive types according to component weight.
II. Adhesive Solutions for Different Scenarios
Select targeted adhesives based on the service environment. Indoor dry environments: use standard polymer cement mortar adhesive, which is easy to apply and relatively low in cost; indoor humid environments (such as bathrooms and underground spaces): use waterproof polymer adhesive with hydrophobic agents added, with bond strength ≥2.0MPa; outdoor environments: use weather-resistant epoxy adhesive with UV resistance and high/low temperature tolerance, maintaining stable performance at -20°C to 60°C; high-temperature environments (such as areas around equipment rooms): use high-temperature-resistant adhesive with heat resistance ≥150°C. In the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park project, Qinglong ensured long-term stable bonding through environment-matched adhesive selection.
III. Key Control Points for Adhesive Application
Standardized application is essential for ensuring bonding quality. Before application, clean the substrate surface to ensure it is free of dust, oil stains, and loose particles; concrete substrates should be roughened to enhance adhesion. Mix the adhesive in the specified proportions, stir evenly, and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before stirring again for use to avoid air bubbles. Use spot bonding or strip bonding methods with a bonded area ≥60%, and control the adhesive layer thickness at 3-5mm to prevent shrinkage cracking caused by excessive thickness. After applying the GRC panels, adjust their position promptly and press firmly; allow curing for at least 24 hours, and premature loading is prohibited. Through standardized construction, Qinglong has achieved an adhesive application pass rate of over 99%.
IV. Bonding Quality Inspection and Follow-up Maintenance
Strict inspection ensures reliable bonding, while regular maintenance extends service life. After bonding is completed, use the tapping method for inspection; a result is qualified if there is no hollow sound, and the hollowing rate must be ≤3%. Conduct sampling pull-out tests, with bond strength required to reach at least 1.2 times the design value. During follow-up maintenance, inspect bonded areas every six months and promptly repair any cracking or detachment; outdoor bonded areas should be regularly coated with protective agents to prevent adhesive aging. In the Jiahe City project in Nanning, Qinglong ensured the long-term stability of bonded areas through regular maintenance, with no safety hazards.
