Thin GRC decorative panels (thickness <15mm) are widely used in interior and exterior decoration for their light weight and flexible shaping, but insufficient thickness can easily lead to inadequate strength, requiring clear strength requirements and reinforcement measures. Drawing on project experience with thin components such as the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater, Qinglong analyzes the core strength standards and improvement solutions.
1. Core Strength Standards for Thin GRC Decorative Panels
According to the standard "Glass Fibre Reinforced Cement (GRC) Decorative Products" (JC/T940-2022), the strength of thin GRC decorative panels (thickness 10-15mm) must meet: compressive strength ≥15MPa, flexural strength ≥3.5MPa, tensile strength ≥2.0MPa, and impact strength ≥2.5kJ/㎡. Thin panels for interior decoration (such as ceilings and feature walls) may follow the basic standards, while thin panels for exterior curtain walls require higher standards: flexural strength ≥4.0MPa and impact strength ≥3.0kJ/㎡. Qinglong's 12mm thick exterior thin GRC panels achieve a measured flexural strength of up to 4.5MPa, far exceeding the standard requirements. In addition, the bending deflection must be ≤L/250 (L being the component span) to ensure no obvious deformation during use.
2. Key Factors Affecting the Strength of Thin GRC Panels
Strength performance is affected by materials, processes and structural design. In terms of materials, insufficient cement grade or fiber content that is too low (<3%) leads to inadequate strength; Qinglong selects P·O 52.5 grade cement combined with alkali-resistant glass fiber, with the fiber content controlled at 3%-4%. In terms of production processes, uneven mixing and insufficient vibration lead to inadequate density (porosity >10%), affecting strength, requiring high-frequency vibration and vacuum degassing technology. In terms of structural design, spans that are too large (>1.2m) can easily lead to inadequate strength, requiring reasonable division of panel dimensions and installation of stiffening ribs. In the auditorium renovation project of the American International School of Guangzhou, the span of 12mm thick thin GRC panels was controlled within 1.0m to ensure the strength met requirements.
3. Technical Solutions for Strengthening Thin GRC Panel Strength
The strength of thin panels is improved through multi-dimensional optimization. Material upgrade: adopting a "cement + silica fume + ultrafine quartz sand" composite matrix to improve density and strength; Fiber optimization: adopting a "long + short" mixed fiber system (12mm+6mm) to enhance the fiber bridging effect, increasing strength by 20%-30%; Process improvement: adopting high-pressure spray molding technology with forming pressure ≥0.5MPa to ensure full material compaction, while extending steam curing time to 48 hours to promote strength development; Structural reinforcement: setting longitudinal and transverse stiffening ribs on the back of components with rib height ≥20mm and spacing ≤500mm. In the Qinglong GRC supporting project for Zhuhai Chimelong GRG, this solution enabled 10mm thick thin panels to meet the strength requirements for exterior use.
4. Strength Testing and Quality Assurance Measures
Strict testing ensures thin GRC panels meet strength requirements. During production, standard test blocks are made for each batch and strength-tested after 28 days of standard curing, with a required pass rate of 100%; finished panels are sampled for bending tests and impact tests to ensure compliance with design requirements; ultrasonic testing is used to check internal density, avoiding insufficient strength caused by internal defects; a quality traceability system is established to record raw material batches, production parameters and test results. Through full-process quality control, Qinglong ensures the strength of thin GRC decorative panels consistently meets requirements, providing safety assurance for lightweight and thin decoration needs.
