The recoating cycle of the waterproof coating on exterior wall GRC components directly affects the waterproofing effect and durability; delayed recoating can easily lead to leakage and substrate aging. Qinglong Group, which undertook the Panzhihua Third-Front Construction Culture and Tourism Project in Sichuan, has developed scientific recoating cycle standards over 28 years, implementing precise strategies based on environment and coating type to ensure continuously effective waterproofing.
The recoating cycle of waterproof coatings is not a fixed value; it mainly depends on the service environment, coating quality, and construction workmanship. The optimal recoating time must be determined through regular testing and observation.
In coastal areas and humid environments, due to salt spray and moisture erosion, the recoating cycle is 5-6 years; in hot, dry regions with strong ultraviolet radiation, coatings age quickly, with a recoating cycle of 6-8 years; in dry inland areas with a mild environment, the recoating cycle can be extended to 8-10 years. In the Panzhihua project in Sichuan, due to the hot, dry climate, Qinglong recommended a recoating cycle of 6 years, with regular testing to ensure the waterproofing effect.
Coating Types: Differences in Service Life Among Different Coatings
Ordinary acrylic waterproof coatings have a relatively short service life, with a recoating cycle of 5-7 years; silicone-acrylic and fluorocarbon waterproof coatings offer strong weather resistance and long service life, with a recoating cycle of 8-10 years. Qinglong recommends fluorocarbon waterproof coatings for exterior wall GRC components, as they offer excellent UV resistance and anti-aging performance. In the Poly Peninsula No. 1 project in Hainan, the recoating cycle of the fluorocarbon coating reached 10 years, far exceeding that of ordinary coatings.
Recoating Criteria: Combining Visual Observation with Performance Testing
When the waterproof coating shows cracking, peeling, or chalking, or when waterproofing performance declines (e.g., signs of leakage appear), recoating should be carried out promptly. Regularly test the coating's bonding strength and elasticity; when the bonding strength falls below 1.0 MPa, recoating is recommended. In its after-sales maintenance services, Qinglong provides customers with coating performance testing. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One project, testing promptly identified coating aging issues, and recoating was arranged to prevent leakage.
The recoating cycle of waterproof coatings for exterior wall GRC components must balance environmental suitability with coating characteristics. For 28 years, Qinglong has consistently adhered to the principle of "scientific judgment, precise recoating," providing customers with recoating guidance and services, and recommending suitable coating types and recoating cycles based on each project's actual environment. Timely, scientific recoating keeps the waterproofing barrier of GRC exterior walls continuously effective, extends the service life of components, and safeguards building safety.
