Large-Size GRC Panel Transport Fixing: Three Core Methods to Ensure Zero Transit Damage

Transportation and fixing of large-size GRC panels (single panel area ≥3㎡) is an engineering challenge. Improper fixing can easily cause damage and deformation, affecting installation and decorative effects. As the group that undertook the large GRC sculpture project for the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, Qinglong Group has developed safe and efficient transportation fixing methods over 28 years, keeping the transportation damage rate of large-size GRC panels within 0.5%.

Due to their large area and relatively weak rigidity, large-size GRC panels must withstand external forces such as bumps and vibrations during transportation, so the fixing method needs to balance stability and protection. Through customized transportation plans, Qinglong ensures that every large-size GRC panel arrives safely at the construction site.

Fixing Method 1: Custom Steel Brackets, Suitable for Large-Size Shapes

According to the dimensions and shapes of the GRC panels, dedicated steel brackets are made with a spacing of ≤1.5m, and rubber pads are used at contact points to cushion the panels and prevent damage from hard contact. Bolts are used to fix panels to the brackets with a spacing of ≤600mm to ensure overall stability. In the Shanghai New World Nanjing East Road Century Plaza project, Qinglong customized steel brackets for 12㎡ super-large translucent wood-imitation GRC panels, with no deformation or damage during transportation.

Fixing Method 2: Flexible Strapping + Layered Protection, Suitable for Batch Transportation

For batch transportation, geotextile or foam boards are used to separate each GRC panel to avoid mutual friction and scratches. Flexible slings are used for strapping, with strapping points avoiding corners and edges and choosing areas where the panel bears force evenly. The strapping force should be moderate—firm enough to secure the panels without pressing on them. In the Hainan Poly Peninsula No.1 project, Qinglong transported 6m×3m double-curved GRC panels in batches, achieving zero-damage transportation with this method.

Fixing Method 3: Full-Vehicle Protection, for Long-Distance Transportation

Long-distance transportation requires flatbed trucks with anti-slip mats laid on the vehicle floor. Panels are placed at an inclination of 15-30° to reduce windward exposure and vibration effects. The entire load is covered with rainproof tarps and sun protection film to prevent panel performance changes caused by sun and rain. Qinglong assigns dedicated personnel to accompany the vehicles, regularly checking fixing conditions en route and making timely adjustments to ensure safety throughout the transportation.
