The junction between UHPC exterior walls and door/window openings is a critical node for waterproofing, thermal insulation, and aesthetics; improper handling can easily lead to leakage, cracking, and other problems. Qinglong Group, with 28 years of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP construction and installation experience, has developed a comprehensive solution for the junction treatment between UHPC exterior walls and door/window openings through the practice of over a thousand projects.
#Precise Control of Reserved Openings: Laying the Foundation for the Junction The precision of opening reservation is the prerequisite for seamless junctions. During the detailed design stage, Qinglong Group accurately determines the dimensions and positions of the openings in the UHPC exterior walls based on door/window dimensions and installation requirements, controlling opening dimension tolerances within ±2mm. The UHPC panels around the openings adopt an integral prefabrication process to avoid dimensional deviations caused by splicing. During production, the opening contours are precisely positioned through molds, ensuring that the opening edges are flat and smooth, with verticality and flatness tolerances not exceeding ±1mm/m. For large door/window openings, reinforcing ribs are set around the openings to enhance the structural strength of the surrounding area and prevent later deformation. In the Jiaxing Zhongguancun Shopping Center project, Qinglong Group created favorable conditions for subsequent junction treatment by precisely reserving the door/window openings.
#Waterproof Structural Design: Multiple Protection Against Leakage Waterproofing is the core function of door/window opening junctions. Qinglong Group adopts a "three-line waterproofing" structural scheme: the first line is sealant waterproofing between the UHPC panels and the door/window frames, using silicone sealant with strong weather resistance and high bonding strength; the sealant is fully filled, with a width of not less than 15mm, and tightly bonded to both the panels and the door/window frames; the second line is an added waterproof membrane layer, with grooves reserved on the UHPC panels around the openings for laying waterproof membranes with a width of not less than 300mm; one end of the membrane is firmly bonded to the UHPC panel, and the other end extends to the inner side of the door/window frame, forming a waterproof barrier; the third line is a drainage channel design, with concealed drainage channels set at the bottom of the openings to promptly discharge small amounts of infiltrated rainwater and prevent water accumulation and leakage. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One project, this waterproofing scheme passed multiple water spray tests with no leakage whatsoever.
#Insulation Junction Treatment: Avoiding Thermal Bridge Effect Insulation junction treatment must avoid thermal bridge effects. At the junctions between the UHPC exterior walls and the door/window openings, Qinglong Group uses insulation materials of the same material as the exterior wall insulation system to fill the gaps between the door/window frames and the openings; the insulation materials must be precisely cut and densely filled to ensure no gaps. On the inner side of the UHPC panels around the openings, insulation extension layers are set with an extension length of not less than 200mm, forming a continuous whole with the wall insulation layer. For metal door/window frames, thermal insulation gaskets are set between the frames and the UHPC panels to reduce heat transfer. In the Huawei Songshan Lake Terminal project, this insulation junction treatment kept the heat transfer coefficient around the door/window openings consistent with that of the exterior walls, effectively improving the building's energy efficiency.
#Decorative Closure Design: Balancing Aesthetics and Function Decorative closure design must meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. Based on the architectural style, Qinglong Group provides a variety of decorative closure solutions: for modern minimalist buildings, a flush closure design is adopted, with the door/window frames kept flush with the UHPC exterior wall surface and the gaps filled with matching-color sealant for a clean and unified visual effect; for classical-style buildings, UHPC decorative lines are set around the openings, with gaps of 5-8mm reserved between the lines and the door/window frames; after filling with sealant, the lines can cover the gaps and enhance the decorative effect. The edges of the UHPC panels at the closure locations are chamfered to avoid sharp corners while enhancing aesthetics. In the Zhongshan Kaiyin New Town project, the decorative line closure design not only ensured the functional stability of the junction areas but also enhanced the overall quality of the building.
The junction treatment between UHPC exterior walls and door/window openings must address four core requirements: precision, waterproofing, thermal insulation, and aesthetics. With 28 years of full-chain experience, Qinglong Group provides customized junction solutions for each project, achieving the ideal effect of seamless junctions through scientific design and standardized construction. Only by partnering with a professional UHPC manufacturer can the long-term stability and aesthetics of the door/window opening junctions be ensured.
