In the field of modern architectural decoration, curved GRC decorative panels have become the finishing touch of high-end projects such as landmark buildings and commercial complexes thanks to their unique curved-surface aesthetics and structural performance. However, their complex curved forms place extremely high precision demands on mold fabrication, and mold quality directly determines the forming effect and installation fit of the final product. As an industry-leading enterprise with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group draws on the practice of hundreds of complex projects to provide an in-depth analysis of the key precision control points and systematic safeguard measures in curved GRC decorative panel mold fabrication.
I. Core Precision Indicators for Curved GRC Decorative Panel Molds
The mold precision of curved GRC decorative panels must center on "three-dimensional spatial error control". Key indicators include: curvature radius deviation controlled within ±2mm to ensure surface smoothness; panel thickness tolerance ≤1.5mm to avoid structural stress concentration caused by uneven material distribution; and joint misalignment deviation ≤0.5mm to guarantee seamless fitting during installation. Taking a double-curved GRC curtain wall project for a grand theater as an example, the comparison error between the mold's 3D scanning data and the design model must be controlled within 0.3mm/m — a precision standard far exceeding the requirements for traditional decorative components.
II. Full-Process Precision Assurance System for Mold Fabrication
In the mold design stage, Qinglong employs parametric modeling technology (Rhino+Grasshopper) and a BIM collaborative platform to break architectural curved surfaces down into quantifiable mathematical models, and uses finite element analysis to simulate the impact of material shrinkage on curved-surface precision, reserving a 0.8% shrinkage compensation allowance in advance. In production, high-strength aluminum alloy or ABS engineering plastic is selected as the mold base material, with the coefficient of thermal expansion controlled below 2.3×10⁻⁵/°C, combined with five-axis machining centers to achieve a mold surface finish of Ra≤1.6μm.
To address the stability challenge of curved molds, Qinglong has innovatively developed a "modular assembly + built-in stiffening ribs" structure: CNC-machined locating pin holes (H7 tolerance class) ensure module assembly precision, and rib spacing is controlled at 300–500mm, boosting the overall rigidity of the mold by 40%. In a commercial complex project, this structure successfully resolved the deformation problem of a mold for a 12-meter-diameter double-curved GRC canopy, with a post-forming curvature error of only 0.8mm.
III. Closed-Loop Management of Precision Inspection and Quality Traceability
Every set of curved GRC molds must pass three inspection procedures: 3D point cloud scanning with an articulated-arm measuring machine to generate an STL model for comparison against design drawings; laser interferometer testing of mold surface flatness to ensure an error of ≤0.1mm per square meter; and simulated pouring pressure testing, maintaining zero deformation for 30 minutes under 0.3MPa pressure. Inspection data is uploaded in real time to Qinglong's self-developed MES system, which generates a unique digital identity and enables full lifecycle traceability from design to installation.
As a contributing editor of the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fibre Reinforced Cement (GRC), Qinglong has transformed its 28 years of mold precision control experience into industry standards. Its curved GRC mold fabrication techniques have been applied to more than 300 key projects at home and abroad, including the double-curved cornice of an international airport in Malaysia and the irregular-shaped curtain wall of a cultural center in Saudi Arabia. Through refined management covering "design – machining – inspection – iteration", Qinglong not only safeguards the artistic expressiveness of curved GRC decorative panels but also sets a technical benchmark for precision manufacturing in the architectural decoration industry. Looking ahead, with the development of UHPC/GRC composite technology, mold precision control will advance toward the micron level, providing even stronger technical support for the perfect integration of architectural aesthetics and structural safety.
