What Methods Are Commonly Used for GRC Curtain Wall Waterproofing? Key Techniques Explained

In modern architectural design, GRC curtain walls have become a common decorative material for high-end buildings such as grand theaters and commercial complexes, thanks to their advantages of light weight, high strength, and flexible shaping. However, the waterproofing performance of curtain walls directly affects a building's safety and durability, making it a core element of project implementation. As an industry leader with 28 years of experience in detailed design and construction of GRC materials, Qinglong Group has drawn on its full-chain technical strengths to develop a systematic GRC curtain wall waterproofing solution, providing professional technical support for designers and owners.

Core Methods of GRC Curtain Wall Waterproofing: Building a Multi-Layer Protection System

Waterproofing treatment for GRC curtain walls must follow the principle of "prevention first, multiple lines of defense," combining material property optimization with structural design to form a three-dimensional protection network. First, during the GRC panel production stage, Qinglong uses a composite process of specially formulated low-alkali cement and alkali-resistant glass fiber, giving the panels themselves good impermeability, with water absorption controlled below 6%, better than the industry average. Second, during installation, a dual "water guiding + water blocking" design is applied: the drainage slope between panels and sealant caulking form the first line of defense, while drainage channels are provided within the keel cavities to ensure that any small amount of infiltrated moisture is discharged promptly.

Key Technologies Explained: Precision Control from Materials to Construction

1. Joint Sealing Technology: As the weak link in waterproofing, Qinglong adopts a dual-sealing process of "structural adhesive + sealant." The structural adhesive is a silicone structural sealant compliant with the GB16776 standard, ensuring firm bonding between panels and the keel; the sealant is a silicone weatherproof sealant with excellent weather resistance, combined with foam backer rod filling to form an elastic sealing layer that can accommodate displacement deformation of ±50mm. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, this technology successfully withstood the test of the high-temperature, high-humidity environment of South China.

2. Drainage System Optimization: Drawing on the experience of the Century Plaza renovation project on Nanjing East Road, Qinglong innovatively designed a "concealed drainage channel," with drainage passages 10mm wide and 8mm deep set at the bottom of GRC panels, together with drainage holes at 3-meter intervals, forming an efficient drainage path. At the same time, 3D laser scanning technology ensures installation precision, keeping panel gap errors within ±2mm to avoid poor drainage caused by misalignment.

3. Backing Waterproofing Treatment: For projects in rainy regions, Qinglong recommends laminating a 1.5mm-thick polymer waterproof membrane on the back of GRC panels, forming an integral protective layer with the panels through a special adhesive. This process was applied in a commercial complex project in Malaysia, extending the curtain wall's waterproofing service life to more than 15 years, far exceeding the conventional industry standard of 5-8 years.

Full-Chain Service Support: Professional Assistance from Design to Maintenance

As a National High-Tech Enterprise, Qinglong Group relies on the R&D strength of its provincial engineering technology center to provide customers with full-process services from detailed design to after-sales maintenance. In the design phase, BIM technology is used to simulate rainwater flow paths and optimize joint details in advance; in production, automated forming equipment ensures panel dimensional accuracy; during construction, a professional installation team strictly implements the "three-inspection system"; and in the after-sales phase, a regular inspection system is established to promptly address potential issues such as sealant aging. This "one-stop" service model has been proven in renowned real estate projects by Poly and China Overseas, serving as a quality guarantee for GRC curtain wall waterproofing projects.

As architectural aesthetic requirements continue to rise, GRC curtain wall waterproofing technology will develop toward greater refinement and intelligence. Qinglong Group will continue to focus on the innovative application of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials. With the mission of "Creating Beautiful Architecture," it will provide the industry with more reliable waterproofing solutions, helping to create architectural works that combine artistic appeal with durability.
