How to Protect the Curvature of Double-Curved GRC Panels During Transport: Key Techniques and Practical Solutions

In the field of architectural decoration, double-curved GRC panels, with their unique curved aesthetics and structural performance, have become the visual centerpiece of high-end buildings such as grand theaters and commercial complexes. However, transporting such components is like a 'relocation of precision instruments'—even a curvature deviation exceeding 3mm can make on-site splicing impossible during installation, directly resulting in losses of tens of thousands of yuan. As an industry technology leader with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP, Qinglong Group has drawn on hands-on experience from thousands of special-shaped component projects to develop a 'four-dimensional protection system' for double-curved GRC panel transport protection, safeguarding the 'perfect curves' of every curved component from structural design to process control.

1. Pre-Transport Stage: Customized Design from Material Properties to Packaging Solutions

Transport protection for double-curved GRC panels is essentially a cross-disciplinary fusion of material mechanics and logistics engineering. Although GRC material (glass fiber reinforced concrete) offers the advantage of a flexural strength of ≥15MPa, the uneven stress distribution in curved structures makes it prone to 'fatigue damage' during bumpy transit. Based on the component's radius of curvature (as small as 300mm), surface area (up to 12㎡), and thickness (typically 8-15mm), Qinglong's technical team customizes a 'three-layer protective packaging': the inner layer uses EPE pearl cotton that fully conforms to the component's curved surface, the middle layer provides cushioning with 5mm-thick high-density polyurethane foam, and the outer layer is secured with a custom steel frame fitted with rubber shock-absorbing pads at the frame joints, keeping transport vibration within 0.5g—a standard far below the industry-common 1.2g, effectively 'suspending' the component within the transport space.

2. Loading: 'Millimeter-Level' Space Planning Empowered by BIM Technology

Conventional transport often causes component deformation due to stacking and compression, whereas Qinglong builds a 'virtual loading model' using BIM technology to simulate in advance the center-of-gravity shifts under different road conditions. Taking a double-curved exterior wall project for a convention and exhibition center as an example, 32 GRC panels with a radius of curvature of 500mm were arranged in a 'radially staggered stacking' layout, with 15cm buffer gaps reserved between adjacent components and adjustable hydraulic locking devices securing them from six directions, ensuring that lateral displacement during transport does not exceed 2mm. This model of 'digital rehearsal + mechanical precision positioning' has kept Qinglong's transport breakage rate for double-curved components below 0.3% over the past three years, far better than the industry average of 3%.

3. In-Transit Monitoring: Real-Time 'Health Records' Built with IoT Technology

Every transport vehicle is equipped by Qinglong with a 'three-axis acceleration sensor + temperature and humidity recorder' to monitor in real time the impact force and ambient temperature and humidity during transport (suitable transport conditions for GRC are 5-35℃ and humidity ≤85%). Data is transmitted via 5G to a cloud-based management platform; when abnormal vibration (exceeding 0.8g) or out-of-range temperature and humidity is detected, the system immediately sends an alert to the project manager so that the transport route can be adjusted or protective measures taken promptly. This dual-safeguard mechanism of 'IoT + manual inspection' once successfully prevented moisture damage to components caused by a rainstorm on a project, saving more than 200,000 yuan in direct economic losses.

4. Unloading and Handover: A Fully Traceable Quality Control Loop

Upon arrival at the site, Qinglong uses a 'dedicated vacuum suction lifter' for unloading, with lifting points set strictly according to the mechanical analysis results from the detailed design stage to prevent curved-surface deformation caused by single-point loading. Meanwhile, each component is fitted with an RFID chip recording full-process data from production through transport to installation; during acceptance, the information is read via a handheld terminal to verify key indicators such as curvature deviation (measured with a 3D laser scanner with an accuracy of ±1mm) and surface integrity. This 'traceable and verifiable' handover system ensures that problem components can be quickly traced to the responsible stage, providing data support for subsequent improvements.

Transport protection for double-curved GRC panels tests not only technical capability, but also an unwavering pursuit of 'millimeter-level precision.' As a National High-Tech Enterprise and a contributing editor of the Technical Standard for Architectural Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC), Qinglong Group has always regarded 'transport' as an extension of product quality. Through the deep integration of 'materials science + engineering technology + digital management,' every double-curved component arrives 'perfectly' from the factory to the construction site. Behind this lies technical confidence built on 28 years of industry experience, as well as a sense of responsibility driven by the mission of 'creating aesthetically beautiful architecture'—after all, even the most stunning designs require reliable delivery to achieve their ultimate architectural beauty.
