In the field of contemporary architectural decoration, double-curved GRC panels have become the ideal choice for high-end projects such as grand theaters, convention centers, and landmark buildings, thanks to their unique curved-surface shaping capability and excellent structural performance. As an industry leader with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group knows well that the fiberglass mesh laying process is the core link in the quality control of double-curved GRC panels. This article analyzes the special specifications and implementation key points of fiberglass mesh laying for double-curved GRC panels from three dimensions: material properties, process requirements, and key technologies.

I. Special Performance Requirements of Double-Curved GRC Panels for Fiberglass Mesh

The curved-surface morphology of double-curved GRC panels poses stringent challenges to the physical properties of fiberglass mesh. Compared with flat GRC components, the fiberglass mesh must simultaneously meet three core indicators: first, high extensibility—it must achieve wrinkle-free conformity on complex curved surfaces with a radius of curvature ≤300mm, with elongation at break ≥3.5%; second, bidirectional strength balance—the difference between warp and weft tensile strength must be controlled within 10% to avoid panel surface cracking caused by uneven stress distribution; third, alkali-resistance stability—alkali-resistant glass fiber (AR glass fiber) is adopted to ensure a strength retention rate of over 80% after 50 years in the alkaline cement environment. The specialized fiberglass mesh produced by Qinglong Group is all certified under the Technical Standard for Architectural Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) (JGJ/T423-2018), providing reliable mechanical support for double-curved components.

II. Process Specifications for Fiberglass Mesh Laying on Curved Surfaces

The fiberglass mesh laying for double-curved GRC panels requires breaking away from the conventional mindset of flat-surface construction and establishing a curved-surface-adapted process system. In the detailed design stage, Qinglong's technical team uses Rhino+Grasshopper parametric modeling to decompose the double-curved surface into several developable units, precisely calculating the cutting dimensions and overlap angles of the fiberglass mesh to ensure that the conformity error between each mesh sheet and the curved surface is ≤2mm. The production process adopts a composite technique of "vacuum adsorption + mechanical tensioning": the fiberglass mesh is first pre-fixed on the curved surface of the mold with vacuum suction cups, and then a pretension of 0.3-0.5MPa is applied using a multi-point synchronized tensioning device, eliminating mesh wrinkles while ensuring uniform bidirectional stress. For complex shapes with double curvature exceeding 15°, an innovative "layered staggered-joint laying method" is adopted: a 160g/m² standard mesh is used for the bottom layer, with an 80g/m² fine mesh overlaid on the surface layer, forming a gradient-reinforcement structure. This process has been successfully applied in the Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation project.

III. Key Technological Innovations in Quality Control

Based on 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong Group has established a "Three Inspections, Three Controls" technical system for fiberglass mesh laying of double-curved GRC panels. Incoming material inspection uses laser thickness gauges and electronic universal testing machines to ensure a mesh thickness deviation ≤5% and tensile strength ≥750MPa; laying process control introduces 3D scanning technology to monitor mesh position deviations in real time and automatically correct them through robotic arms; finished product quality inspection employs ultrasonic flaw detectors to check the embedded depth of the fiberglass mesh (standard value: 1.5-2.5mm), combined with four-point bending tests to verify the flexural strength of components (compliance value ≥20MPa). In addition, to address construction challenges in high-temperature and high-humidity environments, a specialized water-based sizing agent has been developed, increasing the interfacial bond strength between the fiberglass mesh and the cement matrix by 20%; this technology has been granted a national invention patent (patent number omitted).

The fiberglass mesh laying process for double-curved GRC panels represents a deep integration of materials science and engineering technology, requiring both respect for material properties and breakthroughs beyond traditional construction boundaries. As a member unit of the International GRC Association and a contributing editor of the General Technical Requirements for Non-Load-Bearing Components of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), Qinglong Group has always upheld the mission of "Creating Beautiful Architecture," transforming artistic visions of complex curved surfaces into safe and reliable architectural entities through technological innovation. In the future, with the deep integration of BIM technology and intelligent construction, the fiberglass mesh laying process will continue to upgrade toward digitalization and refinement, bringing more possibilities to the architectural decoration industry.
