As an important element in modern architecture that combines both aesthetics and functionality, exterior wall GRC decorative components with rust staining on their surfaces not only compromise the building's appearance but may also pose structural safety hazards. As an industry leader with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group draws on its practices in detailed design, manufacturing, and after-sales maintenance to provide an in-depth analysis of the causes of rust staining and systematic repair solutions.
Analysis of the Three Core Causes of Rust Staining in GRC
In the production and application of GRC components, rust staining mainly arises from three aspects: material selection, process control, and installation and maintenance. First, substandard steel bars or metal embedded parts without anti-rust treatment are common triggers; when the protective layer of the glass fiber reinforced concrete is insufficient in thickness, metal components are prone to oxidation caused by rainwater erosion. Second, using high-alkali cement or failing to strictly control the water-cement ratio during production accelerates the corrosion process of metal materials. In addition, rainwater leakage caused by aged sealant during installation, as well as damage to the protective layer resulting from improper later maintenance, can also lead to rust staining. During its participation in drafting the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) (JGJ/T423-2018), Qinglong Group verified the correlation of the above factors through numerous engineering cases.
Systematic Repair Solutions: From Emergency Treatment to Long-Term Protection
For rust staining problems of varying severity, Qinglong Group recommends a graded repair strategy. For minor rust stains, treatment can be carried out by mechanical grinding combined with a specialized rust remover, followed by applying an alkali-resistant sealing primer and a fluorocarbon topcoat to form a dual protective barrier. Moderate corrosion requires local chisel-out, replacement with anti-rust treated embedded parts, and re-casting with high-performance GRC repair material, which should meet the technical requirements of flexural strength ≥15MPa and frost resistance of ≥25 cycles. For structural damage caused by severe corrosion, non-destructive testing must be performed by a professional team, and if necessary, UHPC materials should be used for structural reinforcement, leveraging their ultra-high compressive strength (≥150MPa) and durability advantages to enhance the load-bearing capacity of the components.
Qinglong Full-Chain Solution: Eliminating Rust Hazards at the Source
As a national-level high-tech enterprise, Qinglong Group has built a complete quality control system from material R&D to project implementation. In the production stage, low-alkali cement and alkali-resistant glass fibers are adopted, together with fully automated production lines to ensure uniform protective layer thickness of components; during the detailed design stage, BIM technology is used for joint optimization to avoid exposed metal components; during installation, 3D laser positioning is implemented to guarantee sealant application quality. To date, Qinglong has provided after-sales maintenance services for over 6 million square meters of GRC projects across the country, extending the average service life of projects to more than 20 years through regular inspections and preventive maintenance. Whether for the irregular curtain walls of landmark buildings or the decorative lines of commercial complexes, Qinglong always upholds a "meticulous attention to detail and relentless pursuit of excellence" attitude, providing designers and owners with full-cycle services from scheme design to lifetime maintenance.
