In the field of architectural decoration, GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete), with its lightweight, high-strength properties and rich design versatility, is widely used in critical components such as exterior wall cladding panels and decorative mouldings in high-end projects including grand theaters, commercial complexes, and landmark buildings. As one of the core indicators in GRC material performance testing, chloride ion content directly affects the durability and structural safety of components. As a national high-tech enterprise with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group, drawing on its practical experience in participating in the formulation of the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) (JGJ/T423-2018), provides the industry with a scientific and rigorous solution for testing the chloride ion content of GRC panels.
The Core Significance of Chloride Ion Content Testing for GRC Panels
Chloride ions are the primary cause of steel reinforcement corrosion. If the chloride content in GRC panels exceeds the limit, it will cause internal metal inserts or reinforcement to corrode and expand, leading to problems such as component cracking and strength reduction, severely affecting building safety and service life. For real estate developers, architectural design institutes, and public project managers, accurate chloride ion content testing is a key step in controlling GRC material quality and reducing project risks. Qinglong GRC adheres to the quality principle of "meticulousness and the constant pursuit of excellence," incorporating chloride ion testing into the whole-process quality control system covering incoming raw materials, production processes, and finished product acceptance, ensuring that every batch of products meets national standards.
Standard Methods and Procedures for Chloride Ion Testing of GRC Panels
At present, the mainstream industry testing methods are carried out in accordance with the Technical Specification for Testing of Chloride Ion Content in Concrete (JGJ/T 322). The specific procedures are as follows:
1. Sample Preparation: Random samples are taken from different parts of the GRC panel, crushed and ground into powder with a particle size of no more than 0.16mm, then dried at 105℃ to constant weight to ensure sample representativeness. Qinglong's production base is equipped with professional sample preparation equipment and strictly controls sampling quantity and grinding precision to avoid testing errors caused by sample inhomogeneity.
2. Chemical Analysis: Testing is conducted using the silver nitrate titration method or ion chromatography. The former dissolves the chloride ions in the sample with nitric acid, uses potassium chromate as an indicator, and titrates with a standard silver nitrate solution to the endpoint; the latter uses an ion chromatograph to separate and quantify the chloride ion concentration, offering higher accuracy. Qinglong's laboratory has introduced advanced ion chromatography equipment to meet the rapid testing needs of large sample volumes.
3. Result Calculation and Determination: The percentage of chloride ions relative to the dry weight of GRC is calculated from the test data. In accordance with the Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) Decorative Products standard (JC/T 940-2022), the chloride ion content of GRC panels used in load-bearing structures should not exceed 0.06%, and that of non-load-bearing components should not exceed 0.10%. Qinglong strictly enforces this standard and resolutely refuses to release any products exceeding the limits.
Precautions During Testing and Qinglong's Practices
1. Ensuring Sample Representativeness: Avoid sampling from special areas such as component edges and locations near embedded inserts. Samples should be randomly drawn from GRC panels produced in different batches and from different molds to ensure that test results reflect overall quality. Qinglong has established a "one test per truckload" system, with each batch of products accompanied by a test report to achieve quality traceability.
2. Testing Environment Control: Laboratory temperature and humidity must meet standard requirements, chemical reagents should be calibrated regularly, and instruments and equipment should undergo metrological certification annually. Qinglong's laboratory is CNAS-accredited and strictly follows the ISO quality management system, ensuring the accuracy and authority of test data.
3. Raw Material Source Management: Chloride ions mainly come from cement, admixtures, and mixing water. Qinglong strictly selects low-chloride cement during raw material procurement, controls the chloride ion content of admixtures, and conducts dedicated testing on mixing water, reducing the risk of excessive chloride content in GRC panels at the source.
As a participant in GRC industry standard formulation and a vice-chairman unit, Qinglong Group has always driven quality improvement through technological innovation. It not only provides customers with full-chain services covering detailed design, manufacturing, and construction installation, but also safeguards the safe application of GRC materials through professional testing capabilities and a strict quality control system. In the future, Qinglong will continue to uphold its mission of "Creating Beautiful Architecture," cultivating deep expertise in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP niche sectors and providing designers and owners with more reliable, higher-quality architectural decoration material solutions.
