In the field of contemporary architectural curtain walls, ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) has become the preferred material for landmark buildings thanks to its outstanding mechanical properties and design expressiveness. However, the thermal expansion and contraction of UHPC curtain walls under temperature changes has long been a core technical challenge for the industry. As an industry leader with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group has drawn on the practice of more than a thousand projects to build a systematic solution framework covering material modification, structural design, and construction techniques.
I. Material Gene Optimization: Controlling Deformation at the Source
Thermal deformation control of UHPC curtain walls relies first on improving the performance of the material itself. By adjusting nano-scale silica fume content and optimizing fiber ratios, Qinglong's R&D team has brought the linear expansion coefficient of UHPC down to 8-10×10⁻⁶/℃, more than 30% lower than that of conventional concrete. In the constant-temperature laboratory at its Nanning production base, extreme temperature cycling tests from -40℃ to 80℃ showed that Qinglong UHPC panels maintain a stable deformation of no more than 0.3mm/m, exceeding industry standard requirements. In addition, the introduction of a composite reinforcement technology combining basalt fiber and steel fiber has raised the material's elastic modulus to 45GPa, ensuring structural stability under thermal stress.
II. Structural System Innovation: Dynamic Buffering Design Concept
To address thermal deformation in curtain wall systems, Qinglong has innovatively adopted a "three-stage displacement compensation" structural design: elastic rubber pads are installed at panel connection joints (compression ≥20%), the framework keels use sliding supports (allowing ±30mm horizontal displacement), and temperature expansion joints are reserved between the overall curtain wall and the main structure (width increased by 15mm for every 10 meters of building height). In the Century Plaza renovation project on Nanjing East Road, this technology successfully resolved the thermal stress problems of a 12-meter-high light-transmitting UHPC curtain wall; verified through BIM simulation, the maximum annual deformation was kept within the design-permitted range.
III. Construction Technique Upgrade: Refined Installation Control
During construction, Qinglong applies 3D laser scanning technology to achieve millimeter-level positioning. Through an installation process of "pre-assembly, stress release, and fine-tuned fixing," the UHPC curtain wall is ensured the freedom to expand and contract freely with temperature changes. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, for the double-curved UHPC curtain wall, modular hoisting and a real-time stress monitoring system kept installation errors within ±2mm, effectively preventing cumulative stress concentration caused by thermal deformation. Meanwhile, a specially developed weather-resistant sealant (with a temperature resistance range of -50℃ to 150℃) ensures water tightness and deformation adaptability at the joints.
IV. Full Lifecycle Management: Data-Driven Maintenance Solutions
As a national high-tech enterprise, Qinglong has established an IoT-based curtain wall health monitoring system that collects thermal deformation data in real time through fiber optic sensors embedded in the UHPC panels. Combined with a 20-year climate database, it provides owners with preventive maintenance recommendations. In overseas projects such as a landmark building in Malaysia, the system successfully issued early warnings of localized thermal deformation anomalies, and structural risks were averted by promptly adjusting support clearances. This full-chain service model of "design-production-construction-monitoring" is precisely where the core competitive strength of Qinglong as a custom UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP manufacturer lies.
In the face of the continuous evolution of architectural curtain wall technology, Qinglong has always upheld the mission of "creating beautiful buildings," deeply integrating materials science with engineering practice. Through continuous innovation in thermal expansion and contraction solutions, it has not only pushed the boundaries of UHPC applications in high-end architecture, but also demonstrated the leading R&D strength of China's new decorative building materials enterprises. Looking ahead, as UHPC industry standards are improved, Qinglong will continue to leverage its 28 years of professional experience to provide more reliable curtain wall system solutions for designers and owners worldwide.
