Techniques and Practice of Joint Precision Control for Multi-Curved UHPC Forms
Driven by the dual forces of contemporary architectural aesthetics and engineering technology, ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) has become the core material for shaping irregular building skins thanks to its outstanding mechanical properties and design freedom. However, millimeter-level joint precision control of multi-curved UHPC components has always been a technical challenge in the industry. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group has established a precision control system spanning from detailed design to construction and installation through full-chain technological innovation, providing reliable technical support for numerous landmark projects at home and abroad.
I. Analysis of Precision Control Challenges in Multi-Curved UHPC Forms
The joint precision control of multi-curved UHPC components faces three core challenges: first, digital modeling errors of complex curved surfaces, as traditional 2D drawings can hardly convey curvature variations accurately; second, differences in environmental variables between factory prefabrication and on-site installation, where temperature and humidity changes can easily cause dimensional deviations of components; third, hoisting and positioning precision of super-large components, which requires coordinating mechanical errors and structural settlement factors. Taking a hyperbolic curtain wall project of a cultural center as an example, a single UHPC component covers an area of up to 12㎡, the minimum radius of curvature is only 2.5m, and joints must be controlled within 2mm, placing stringent demands on full-process precision management.
II. Full-Process Precision Management System Driven by Digital Technology
Leveraging the technical strength of its national-level R&D center, Qinglong Group has built a trinity precision control solution covering "design-production-installation". In the detailed design stage, a digital twin model is established on the Rhino+Grasshopper parametric platform, with BIM technology used for clash detection and pre-assembly simulation, keeping design errors within 0.5mm; in production, industrial-grade five-axis machining equipment and automated casting systems are introduced, combined with 3D scanning quality inspection, ensuring geometric dimensional deviation of components is less than 1mm/m; on-site installation uses Leica TS60 total stations for real-time positioning, combined with adjustable steel support systems to achieve millimeter-level fine adjustment. In the Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation project, this technical system successfully achieved seamless integration between translucent UHPC components and glass curtain walls, winning the Silver Award at the First UHPC Building Engineering Innovation Awards.
III. Synergistic Optimization of Material Properties and Process Innovation
The properties of UHPC materials provide a fundamental guarantee for precision control: its 28-day compressive strength can reach over 150MPa, and its elastic modulus is as high as 40GPa, effectively reducing deformation caused by component self-weight. Qinglong Group optimizes UHPC flowability and early strength through patented mix ratio technology (Invention Patent ZL2021XXXXXXXXX.3), shortening component demolding time to 8 hours while controlling shrinkage rate to less than 0.03%. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, the composite construction technology of UHPC and GRC was adopted, which not only met the curved shape requirements but also absorbed installation errors through the flexibility of GRC, achieving perfect splicing of a 6,000㎡ irregular curtain wall.
IV. Industry Standard Leadership and Engineering Practice Verification
As a participating editor of the industry standard "General Technical Conditions for Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) Non-Load-Bearing Components", Qinglong Group has translated practical experience into standard specifications, clarifying the precision grade classification and testing methods for multi-curved components. By 2025, the Group has completed more than 300 complex-shape projects at home and abroad, of which projects over 200,000㎡ account for 42%, and the first-pass acceptance rate of joint precision has remained above 98.7%. From the podium renovation of Malaysia's Petronas Twin Towers to the curved suspended ceiling of Terminal 3 at a domestic international airport, Qinglong's UHPC technology has always interpreted the corporate mission of "creating aesthetic architecture" with "millimeter-level precision".
Amid the wave of artistic building skins and precision engineering, joint precision control of multi-curved UHPC forms has become a core indicator of a company's comprehensive strength. Guided by the values of "integrity, perseverance, trust, and collaboration", Qinglong Group will continue to promote the application of UHPC technology in more high-end building fields through material innovation, digital empowerment, and joint standard development, committed to becoming a world-class leading UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP manufacturing enterprise.
