Requirements of Base Walls for UHPC Exterior Wall Panel Installation and Analysis of Key Construction Points
With modern architecture's dual pursuit of aesthetics and performance, ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) exterior wall panels have become the ideal choice for premium building skins thanks to their outstanding mechanical properties and design expressiveness. As an industry leader with 28 years of full-chain experience in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group has gained deep insight, through practices spanning detailed design, manufacturing, and construction installation, into the decisive influence of base wall treatment and construction techniques on the final result. This article systematically analyzes UHPC exterior wall panel installation technology from two aspects—core requirements for base walls and key construction points—providing professional solutions for designers and owners.
I. Core Requirements of UHPC Exterior Wall Panels for Base Walls
As the load-bearing foundation of UHPC exterior wall panels, the quality of the base wall directly affects the safety and durability of the system. When undertaking benchmark projects such as the Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation project, Qinglong Group has always followed the following standards:
1. Adequate structural load-bearing capacity: The base wall must meet design load requirements. Concrete walls should have a compressive strength of no less than C30; masonry walls should use solid bricks or concrete blocks with mortar strength grade ≥M5. For renovation of existing buildings, structural testing is required to ensure the wall can bear the dead weight of UHPC panels (typically 150-200kg/㎡) as well as additional forces such as wind loads and seismic action.
2. Surface flatness control: Checked with a 2m straightedge, the surface flatness tolerance of the base should be ≤5mm/2m, and verticality deviation ≤8mm per story height. If deviations exceed the limits, leveling treatment is required—Qinglong recommends applying polymer cement mortar in layers, with wire mesh added for crack prevention when the thickness exceeds 30mm.
3. Standardized interface treatment: The base surface must be clean and free of oil, dust, and loose layers. Concrete walls should be coated with a bonding agent (a cement-based permeable crystalline bonding agent is recommended), while autoclaved aerated concrete walls require a dedicated bonding mortar coating followed by waterproofing treatment to ensure effective bonding with UHPC panels.
4. Compatibility of embedded parts and connection joints: According to Qinglong's detailed design standards, the base must be pre-fitted with galvanized steel connectors (thickness ≥8mm), with spacing and position deviations controlled within ±10mm. Embedded parts should undergo anti-corrosion treatment (hot-dip galvanized layer thickness ≥85μm) and be reliably connected to structural rebar.
II. Key Construction Points for UHPC Exterior Wall Panel Installation
Drawing on Qinglong's construction experience in projects such as the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center, UHPC exterior wall panel installation requires mastery of the following technical steps to achieve "millimeter-level" precision control:
1. Measurement, setting-out and positioning: Use 3D laser scanning technology to build a digital model of the base wall, combined with BIM technology for pre-assembly simulation. On-site setting-out requires establishing datum control lines: one elevation control line for every 3 stories horizontally, and axis control lines for each bay vertically, ensuring installation error ≤3mm.
2. Panel hoisting and temporary fixing: Select hoisting equipment according to panel weight (typically 8-16t truck cranes). Hoisting points must be verified through structural calculation, and dedicated hoisting clamps (Qinglong patented technology) should be used to avoid panel damage. Temporary fixing uses adjustable supports, with no fewer than 2 support points per panel to ensure panel stability during installation.
3. Connection joint construction: Adopt a "flexible connection" system with elastic washers (5-8mm thick) installed between connectors and UHPC panels, allowing slight panel movement under temperature changes. Bolted connections should be tightened with a torque wrench to the design torque (typically 35-45N·m), avoiding over-tightening that could crack the panels.
4. Joint treatment and waterproof sealing: Panel joint widths are reserved per design requirements (typically 10-15mm), with a two-layer waterproof construction: PE rods (1.2 times the joint width in diameter) filled on the inside, and silicone weather-resistant sealant (modulus ≤0.4MPa recommended) applied on the outside. The sealant surface should be smooth and continuous to ensure water and air tightness.
5. Quality acceptance and finished product protection: After installation, check panel verticality (deviation ≤3mm/2m) and joint height difference (≤2mm), and conduct a water spray test (30 minutes with no leakage). Finished product protection uses dedicated protective film coverage to avoid surface scratches from concurrent construction, until final acceptance.
As a national high-tech enterprise and participant in the development of UHPC industry standards, Qinglong Group has always upheld the philosophy of "meticulousness and excellence" throughout the entire construction process. From precision manufacturing at its Nanning production base to standardized installation on projects nationwide, Qinglong has leveraged 28 years of full-chain experience to successfully provide UHPC exterior wall panel solutions for hundreds of landmark projects at home and abroad. Going forward, Qinglong will continue to focus on the innovative application of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, supporting its mission of "creating beautiful buildings" with professional expertise, and delivering building skin systems that combine artistic value and engineering quality for designers and owners.
