In the field of architectural decoration, material durability and aesthetics have always been core concerns for designers and owners. As an ideal choice for exterior wall decoration and landscape styling, GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) is widely used in landmark buildings and commercial complexes thanks to its lightweight, high-strength, and flexible formability. However, in long-term outdoor environments, ultraviolet (UV) exposure can cause surface fading, strength degradation, and other problems, directly affecting a building's appearance and safety. This article provides an in-depth analysis of the UV-resistance assurance system for GRC decorative panels—from material formulation optimization and process innovation to application strategies—offering the industry practical, implementable technical solutions.

I. Technical Pain Points and Industry Challenges of UV Resistance in GRC Materials

As a persistent destructive factor in the natural environment, ultraviolet radiation affects GRC decorative panels in three main ways: first, it causes the decomposition of calcium hydroxide in cement-based materials, leading to surface chalking; second, it accelerates aging at the interface between glass fibers and the cement matrix, reducing structural strength; third, it fades pigments and degrades coatings, compromising the long-term stability of a building's appearance. This problem is particularly pronounced in high-altitude, high-sunlight regions. According to industry research, untreated GRC components may show visible aging after just 3-5 years of outdoor exposure, while premium projects typically require material durability exceeding 15 years—a gap that drives continuous breakthroughs in UV-resistance technology.

II. Core Technologies: Full-Chain Assurance from Material Formulation to Production Processes

As a GRC manufacturer with 28 years of experience, Qinglong has built a technical moat for UV resistance through its integrated “Material-Process-Testing” technology system. At the material level, high-purity Portland cement is blended with low-alkali sulphoaluminate cement to reduce the sensitivity of hydration products to UV radiation; nano-scale silica and alumina powders are incorporated to optimize the matrix microstructure, enhancing impermeability and weathering resistance. For glass fibers, alkali-resistant glass fibers (AR glass fibers) with a ZrO₂ content of ≥16% are selected, effectively resisting the combined attack of the alkaline cement environment and UV radiation to ensure long-term mechanical performance stability.

In production processes, Qinglong innovatively employs “vacuum high-pressure extrusion forming + steam curing” technology, increasing GRC component density by more than 20% and reducing porosity to block penetration pathways for UV radiation and moisture. In the surface treatment stage, a dedicated silane-modified acrylic coating was developed; through molecular-level bonding with the matrix, this coating forms a transparent protective film 50-80μm thick that preserves GRC's natural texture while reflecting over 90% of UV rays. It also features self-cleaning functionality, reducing the aesthetic impact of dust accumulation.

III. Application Strategies: Scenario Adaptation and Full Lifecycle Management

Differences in UV intensity across application scenarios call for differentiated strategies for GRC decorative panels. In tropical regions or on high-rise building facades, a “dual-layer protection system” is recommended: the base layer is reinforced with alkali-resistant glass fibers, while the surface is combined with a 0.5mm-thick UHPC (Ultra-High Performance Concrete) layer, leveraging UHPC's ultra-high density and UV resistance for double assurance. For low-altitude components such as garden landscape features, iron-oxide-based inorganic pigments can be added to reduce the use of organic color pastes, lowering fading risk at the source.

As a National High-Tech Enterprise, Qinglong has established a comprehensive full lifecycle service system. In the early project stage, climate simulation tests (such as QUV accelerated aging tests) provide clients with material weatherability forecast reports; during construction, BIM technology enables precise installation positioning, minimizing damage to protective layers caused by on-site cutting; and in the after-sales stage, regular inspection and maintenance programs—including surface coating restoration and structural performance testing—ensure GRC decorative panels remain in optimal condition throughout long-term use.

From the curved GRC curtain wall of a commercial complex in Qianhai, Shenzhen, to the outdoor landscape components of a resort hotel in Sanya, Hainan, Qinglong has completed over 600,000 square meters of GRC projects through continuous innovation in UV-resistance technology. Looking ahead, as the mission of “Creating Beautiful Architecture” is put into ever-deeper practice, Qinglong will continue to integrate the advantages of materials such as UHPC and GRG, providing designers with more durable and expressive decorative solutions and advancing the application of new architectural decoration materials in green building and sustainable development.
