Choosing the right saw blade is key when cutting UHPC panels! As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials field, Qinglong Group leverages its full-chain technical expertise to reveal the professional secrets of saw blade selection.
UHPC (Ultra-High Performance Concrete) has become a star material in modern architectural decoration thanks to its ultra-high strength and excellent durability, but its high hardness and special composition place stringent demands on cutting tools. Choosing the wrong saw blade not only affects construction efficiency, but may also cause panel cracking and edge chipping, and even lead to safety hazards. Through hundreds of high-end projects, including the translucent concrete project at Nanjing Road Century Plaza, Qinglong has accumulated systematic experience in saw blade selection and cutting techniques. Below, we explain in detail from three aspects: material properties, saw tooth design, and application scenarios.
Core Material Selection for UHPC Panel Cutting Saw Blades
The ultra-high strength of UHPC (compressive strength up to 150-200MPa) and hard aggregates such as quartz sand and steel fibers mean ordinary diamond saw blades can hardly cope. Qinglong's technical team recommends prioritizing high-grade diamond saw blades, with a diamond concentration of 35%-50% and a bronze or resin bond. Bronze bond saw blades are suitable for dry cutting, offering good heat dissipation and long service life, and are especially suited to UHPC panels with a thickness of ≥50mm; resin bond saw blades perform better in wet cutting scenarios, delivering high cutting precision and low noise, and are commonly used for fine cutting of decorative surfaces, such as the processing of special-shaped UHPC components for the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project.
Saw Tooth Structure and Parameter Matching Tips
Saw tooth design directly affects cutting efficiency and panel integrity. Given UHPC's dense properties, the saw blade diameter should be selected according to panel thickness: 100-150mm blades for thin panels up to 50mm, and 200-300mm blades for thick panels of 100-200mm. For tooth shape, continuous teeth or trapezoidal-flat teeth are recommended; avoid traditional corrugated teeth to reduce vibration and stress concentration during cutting. In the detailed design stage, Qinglong uses BIM technology to simulate cutting paths, combined with customized tooth angles (typically a 10°-15° rake angle), to meet the efficient processing demands of, for example, the Nanning production base with its annual capacity of 600,000 square meters.
Scenario-Based Saw Blade Application and Operating Standards
Different construction scenarios have markedly different requirements for saw blades. In factory precast processing, large table-mounted cutting machines paired with diamond circular saw blades of 350mm diameter or above and a water cooling system are recommended for efficient batch cutting; on-site installation cutting requires portable hand-held saws paired with small 125-180mm blades, such as the dual dry/wet blades commonly used in Qinglong's overseas projects (Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, etc.), balancing construction flexibility with cut quality. It is worth noting that the cutting speed should be controlled at 20-30m/min with uniform feed pressure to prevent the blade from overheating due to high-speed friction—this is also a core requirement in Qinglong's construction standards as a National High-Tech Enterprise.
As a participating developer of the industry standard “General Technical Conditions for Non-Load-Bearing Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) Components,” Qinglong has always emphasized the scientific matching of tool selection with material properties. When choosing a saw blade, besides material and parameters, the manufacturer's technical strength must also be considered—Qinglong's saw blade matching solutions are backed by 58 patented technologies and can provide customized cutting recommendations based on a specific project's UHPC mix ratio (such as steel fiber content and aggregate gradation). Remember: a professional saw blade is not merely a cutting tool, but a key link in ensuring the perfect presentation of UHPC material performance—this is also the practical embodiment of Qinglong's commitment to “meticulousness and the constant pursuit of excellence.”
