In the field of architectural decorative materials, molds are the key factor determining the forming quality and production efficiency of UHPC components. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials, Qinglong Group leverages its full-chain experience to explain the characteristics and selection logic of commonly used mold materials for UHPC components, helping projects achieve dual enhancements in aesthetic and engineering value.
I. Steel Molds: The Preferred Solution for Industrial-Grade Precision
With their high strength and high durability, steel molds have become the core choice for mass production of UHPC components. Made from precision-processed Q235 steel plates, they can withstand the high-pressure impact during UHPC pouring and long-term repeated use, with a typical lifespan of over 300 cycles. With mirror-polished surfaces, they can perfectly replicate the fine textures of components, making them especially suitable for applications with stringent precision requirements, such as special-shaped curtain wall panels in commercial complexes and curved decorative components in landmark buildings. In the Nanjing East Road Century Plaza renovation project, Qinglong Group achieved millimeter-level jointing of light-transmitting UHPC components through custom steel molds, winning the Silver Award of the Industry Innovation Award.
II. Wood Molds: The Economical Choice for Customized Shapes
Wood molds made of laminated birch or basswood offer excellent shaping capability and can meet the complex shape requirements of GRG ceilings, UHPC artistic sculptures, and more. Their cost is only 30%-50% of that of steel molds, making them suitable for small-batch customized projects. Through CNC machining technology, Qinglong's production base can control the dimensional error of wood molds within ±0.5mm. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, they successfully created a 12-meter-span GRG curved ceiling, balancing artistic expressiveness with economy.
III. GRP Molds: The Ideal Solution for Corrosion-Resistant Scenarios
GRP (glass-reinforced thermosetting plastic) molds, featuring acid and alkali resistance and light weight, are widely used in UHPC component production in humid environments or coastal areas. With high surface smoothness and excellent demolding performance, they are particularly suitable for projects such as municipal utility tunnels and landscape water features. The GRP molds customized by Qinglong's Southeast Asia production base for a coastal project in Malaysia have maintained stable performance in high salt-spray environments, confirming the material's weather resistance advantages.
IV. Aluminum Molds: The Balanced Choice Between Lightweight Design and Precision
Molds made from extrusion-formed 6061-T6 aluminum alloy combine the precision of steel molds with the lightweight advantage of wood molds. Weighing only 1/3 of steel molds of the same size, they significantly reduce lifting costs. Their excellent thermal conductivity can accelerate UHPC curing, improving production efficiency by more than 30%. In the mass-production UHPC exterior wall panel project of Xinghewan Real Estate, Qinglong achieved a breakthrough production capacity of 300㎡ per day using aluminum molds.
V. Selection Decision Matrix: A Three-Dimensional Evaluation Model
Based on 28 years of project experience, Qinglong Group has established a three-dimensional evaluation system for mold selection: 1) Engineering dimension (component complexity, production batch, usage environment); 2) Economic dimension (initial investment, turnover times, maintenance costs); 3) Technical dimension (surface precision, demolding performance, temperature adaptability). For example, steel or aluminum molds are preferred for special-shaped components of landmark buildings, while a combination of wood and GRP molds is recommended for themed sculptures in cultural tourism projects.
As a national high-tech enterprise and a participant in industry standard setting, Qinglong Group has always been committed to its mission of “Creating Beautiful Architecture,” deeply integrating material technology with engineering practice. With full-process control from mold design to component delivery, and experience accumulated from domestic landmarks to overseas projects in Southeast Asia, we are dedicated to providing designers and owners with UHPC solutions that combine aesthetic value and engineering reliability, promoting the innovative application of new architectural decorative materials.
