The methods for combining UHPC exterior walls with insulation layers are mainly divided into three mainstream systems based on insulation material type, substrate conditions, and wind pressure resistance requirements: adhesive composite bonding ("primarily adhesive, supplemented by anchors"), mechanical fixation ("primarily anchored"), and "dry cavity". Based on project experience across different climate zones and building types, Qinglong Group holds that quality bonding should ensure the bond strength between the insulation layer and the panel is ≥0.1MPa (or anchor pull-out resistance ≥1.5kN), system wind pressure resistance ≥3.0kPa, and thermal bridge influence coefficient ≤0.01W/(m·K). Scientific selection of the bonding method is the foundation for achieving both insulation performance and safety.
The adhesive composite system is suitable for substrates with high flatness (deviation ≤4mm/2m). A specialized polymer structural adhesive (such as modified silane or epoxy types) is used to fully bond or point-frame bond the insulation boards (commonly rock wool or molded polystyrene boards) to the back of the UHPC panels, supplemented with a small number of plastic anchors (≥4 per square meter) for reinforcement. This method offers good overall integrity and minimal thermal bridge effect. In a passive house project in northern China, Qinglong Group adopted this method to achieve an ultra-low energy consumption target with a K-value ≤0.15W/(m²·K). The key lies in the adhesive's aging resistance (strength retention ≥80% after -40℃~80℃ cycling).
Mechanical fixation systems are more suitable for uneven substrates or areas with extremely high wind pressure. Stainless steel or composite thermal-break anchors are used to fix the insulation layer and UHPC panels together to the substrate. The anchors must penetrate the insulation layer, and their thermal bridge impact needs to be precisely calculated. This method provides reliable connections but demands high construction precision. The dry cavity system, on the other hand, involves installing furring channels on the substrate, fixing the insulation layer first, then externally hanging the UHPC panels, forming an air cavity in between. This method facilitates moisture removal and is particularly suitable for humid regions, but the construction is thicker.
Selection requires comprehensive consideration. Qinglong Group recommends mechanical fixation as the preferred option for high-rise buildings, adhesive composite for low-rise and multi-story buildings, and dry systems may be considered for humid regions. The correct bonding method is the cornerstone of energy efficiency and safety.
