When comparing the cost-effectiveness of products from different UHPC manufacturers, never fall into the trap of "unit price only" thinking. True cost-effectiveness is the ratio of "performance" to "total life-cycle cost". Qinglong Group advocates a four-dimensional comprehensive cost analysis method—"initial investment, construction efficiency, long-term maintenance, and service life"—to scientifically evaluate the true economics of different UHPC solutions. A low unit-price product may require increased thickness or added reinforcement due to insufficient performance, or frequent repairs due to poor durability, ultimately resulting in a higher total cost.
First, calculate the true "initial investment". This includes not only the material unit price, but also: the increase or decrease in material quantity resulting from differences in panel thickness required to achieve equivalent mechanical performance (such as flexural strength), cost differences in matching keels and connectors caused by different loads, and labor costs arising from differences in installation precision and efficiency. For example, Manufacturer A's UHPC is priced at 800 RMB/m² but requires a thickness of 20mm, while Manufacturer B's unit price is 1000 RMB/m², but with higher strength, only 15mm thickness is needed to meet the requirements. Only by calculating the "load-bearing efficiency cost" per square meter can an objective comparison be made.
Second, evaluate the costs associated with "construction and installation efficiency". High-precision, standardized products can significantly reduce on-site cutting and adjustment time, shortening the construction period. Excellent workability (such as appropriate flowability and thixotropy) can improve pouring or installation efficiency. Time is money—efficiency hides enormous costs.
Finally, and most importantly yet most easily overlooked, are the "long-term maintenance cost" and "service life". Thanks to its outstanding impermeability, carbonation resistance, and freeze-thaw resistance, high-quality UHPC requires far less frequent and less costly maintenance, repair, or even replacement over a life cycle of more than 50 years compared with ordinary products or inferior UHPC. Although its initial unit price may be 10-20% higher, when the saved maintenance costs and the deferred renewal and renovation expenses resulting from extended service life are discounted to present value, its total life-cycle cost often proves more advantageous. Qinglong Group can provide clients with project-specific life-cycle cost simulation analysis, using data to reveal the truly cost-effective choice.
