The waterproof performance of architectural decoration materials directly affects a building's user experience and structural safety. Especially for exposed areas such as exterior walls, roofs, and landscapes, moisture and seepage resistance is a core functional requirement. As a commonly used decorative component material, GRC's waterproof performance has always been a key customer concern: How good is GRC's waterproof performance? Can it effectively resist rainwater and moisture erosion? Drawing on Qinglong's 28 years of GRC production and application experience and project practices in complex environments across multiple regions, this analysis is presented from three aspects: material properties, technical optimization, and engineering verification.
The Core Properties and Industry Indicators of GRC Waterproof Performance
GRC itself has a certain waterproof foundation. Its main components, cement and quartz sand, form a dense hardened body after hydration reaction, with low porosity that can effectively block water penetration. According to industry standards, the water absorption rate of GRC materials should be no more than 8%, and the impermeability grade should be no less than P6. Testing shows that Qinglong GRC products have a water absorption rate controlled within 5% and an impermeability grade of P8 or above, far exceeding industry benchmarks. This performance means that under normal service conditions, GRC components can effectively prevent rainwater penetration and avoid mold, blistering, or strength reduction caused by internal moisture. It should be noted that GRC's waterproof performance is not absolute; improper production processes, such as insufficient mixing or inadequate curing, can cause cracks or pores inside the material and affect the waterproof effect. Therefore, choosing a properly certified manufacturer is crucial.
Qinglong's Key Technical Measures for Improving GRC Waterproof Performance
To further strengthen the waterproof performance of GRC, Qinglong has built a comprehensive waterproofing system through multi-dimensional technical optimization. In the production stage, high-grade low-alkali cement and well-graded aggregates are used, combined with high-efficiency water reducers, to reduce mixing water and increase matrix density, blocking water penetration channels from within; a high-pressure spray molding process is introduced to make the internal structure of the material denser, while controlling the uniformity of fiber distribution to prevent fiber agglomeration from forming water-permeable pores; during steam curing, temperature and humidity are precisely controlled to promote full cement hydration and further reduce the material's water absorption rate. In the post-treatment stage, for outdoor GRC components, Qinglong provides a dedicated waterproof coating that is breathable yet water-impermeable, which can block external rainwater penetration while releasing internal water vapor to prevent freeze-thaw damage, while also improving the surface wear resistance and stain resistance of components. In the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center project, Qinglong provided an integrated waterproofing solution for 120,000 square meters of GRC roof decoration, which has withstood years of rain without any leakage problems.
Practical Verification of GRC Waterproofing in Different Application Scenarios
Different building parts have different waterproofing requirements, and Qinglong has developed customized GRC waterproofing solutions for different scenarios. For exterior wall applications, the GRC curtain wall at Xiangshan Science and Technology Park in Longhua, Shenzhen adopts a dry-hanging process, with joints sealed by special sealant to form a complete waterproof sealing system that effectively resists rainwater penetration; for roof applications, the GRC double-curved exterior wall panels of the Guangxi New Media Center feature complex shapes, so Qinglong optimized the node design through BIM technology and set up drainage channels in areas prone to water accumulation, combined with waterproof coatings, to ensure a leak-free roof; for landscape applications, the GRC cultural corridor and landscape pavilions of the Xin River Ecological Restoration Project in Yiyang County have long been exposed to outdoor rain, and through internal densification treatment and surface waterproof coatings, no moisture or mildew has appeared to date; for indoor applications, the GRC decorative components at Fengjing Bay in Nanning use a moisture-proof formula adapted to humid indoor environments, effectively avoiding surface efflorescence caused by moisture.
The waterproof performance of GRC is fully guaranteed through material properties and technical optimization, and can fully meet the moisture and seepage resistance requirements of architectural decoration. As a leader in the GRC industry, Qinglong relies on the R&D strength of its provincial-level engineering technology center and strict quality control to continuously optimize waterproofing processes and provide customers with full-scenario waterproofing solutions. Choosing a GRC manufacturer with core technology and rich project experience can fundamentally solve waterproofing risks and ensure the long-term stability and aesthetics of architectural decoration.
