The iteration of UHPC technology has always advanced around the core goals of “higher quality, higher efficiency, and greater diversity”. As a new type of architectural decoration material, UHPC technology is in a period of rapid development, with continuous innovations and breakthroughs in material formulation, production processes, and functional expansion. Qinglong, a national high-tech enterprise with 28 years of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP R&D and production experience, combines its own R&D practice with industry insights to analyze the three major new development directions of UHPC technology.

I. Material Formulation Improvement: High Performance and Low Cost in Parallel

Material formulation improvement is the core direction of UHPC technology development, and it will advance toward the parallel trend of high performance and low cost. In terms of high performance, the compressive strength, flexural strength, durability, and frost resistance of UHPC will be further improved by optimizing the compounding of cementitious materials, fiber modification, and admixture adaptation. Through fiber surface modification technology, Qinglong's R&D team has enhanced the bonding performance between fibers and the matrix, pushing the flexural strength of UHPC beyond 30MPa and reaching an internationally leading level.

In terms of low cost, the core is to use industrial solid waste to replace expensive raw materials, such as using fly ash and slag powder to replace part of the cement and silica fume, and using domestic high-performance fibers to replace imported fibers. Qinglong has successfully developed a UHPC formulation with an industrial solid waste content of over 30%, reducing raw material costs by 15%-20% while ensuring that performance is not compromised. In addition, the R&D and application of new cementitious materials, such as geopolymer cementitious materials, will further reduce the carbon emissions and cost of UHPC, in line with the development needs of green buildings.

II. Production Process Innovation: Upgrading Toward Automation, Intelligence, and Customization

Production process innovation will greatly improve the production efficiency and product quality of UHPC, and future trends will point toward automation, intelligence, and customization upgrades. In terms of automation, the application of fully automatic batching systems, high-speed shear mixing lines, robotic demolding, and other equipment will reduce manual intervention and improve production precision and efficiency. Qinglong's production base in Nanning, Guangxi has achieved automated production in batching, mixing, casting, and other processes, with a product pass rate of 99% and a production efficiency increase of over 30%.

In terms of intelligence, the application of BIM technology, the Internet of Things, and big data will enable digital control of the entire production process. Qinglong uses BIM technology for formulation design and mold development, and monitors parameters such as temperature, humidity, and mixing speed in real time through sensors during production, achieving quality traceability and process optimization. In terms of customization, the application of 3D printing technology and flexible mold technology will break through the limitations of traditional production processes and enable rapid forming of complex special-shaped components. In the Shanghai Astronomy Museum public art project, Qinglong adopted customized flexible mold technology to successfully produce large special-shaped UHPC sculptures over 3 meters, demonstrating the advantages of customized processes.

III. Functional Expansion: Transitioning from Structural Material to Multifunctional Integrated Material

Functional expansion is an important development direction of UHPC technology, and in the future it will transition from a single structural material to a multifunctional integrated material. First, the light-transmitting function: by embedding light guide rods in UHPC or using translucent aggregates, artistic light transmission effects can be achieved. In Qinglong's Shanghai New World Century Plaza project on Nanjing East Road, UHPC wood-effect light-transmitting panels achieved regularized artistic lighting, becoming a highlight of the project. Second, the integrated thermal insulation function: UHPC is combined with insulation materials to form composite panels that combine decorative, load-bearing, and thermal insulation functions, meeting building energy-saving needs. Third, the self-healing function: by adding microorganisms or self-healing agents, UHPC can repair itself after micro-cracks form, improving durability. Fourth, the environmental protection function: UHPC products with antibacterial, anti-mold, and noise-reducing properties are being developed for special scenarios such as hospitals, schools, and subways.

UHPC technology is developing rapidly toward high-performance materials, intelligent production, and diversified functions. As an industry leader, Qinglong will continue to invest in R&D resources, closely follow technology development trends, and promote the innovation and application of UHPC technology, providing customers with higher-quality and more diverse UHPC products and solutions, and helping the construction industry achieve quality upgrades and green development.
