There is no unified fixed standard for GRC installation spacing; it must be scientifically set based on factors such as component type, dimensions and specifications, load conditions, and application scenarios. Reasonable spacing ensures installation stability while balancing aesthetic and functional requirements. Drawing on 28 years of GRC installation experience, combined with industry standards and practice from thousands of projects, Qinglong has summarized the core principles for spacing determination and customized solutions, providing scientific reference for different scenarios.
Component type and dimensions determine the basic spacing. Installation spacing varies significantly among different types of GRC components. For vertical components such as GRC decorative mouldings and Roman columns, spacing is mainly set according to building bay width, floor height, and design style, usually distributed evenly along building axes or decorative zones. In the Shanghai Xinghewan project, Qinglong set the GRC waistline spacing based on floor height to ensure proportional harmony of the building façade. For horizontal components such as GRC curtain wall panels and flat panels, spacing must take into account component dimensions and load-bearing capacity. For curtain wall panels of conventional size (1-2㎡), installation spacing is generally 300-600mm. For oversized components (such as the 6000mm×3000mm double-curved panels of Hainan Poly Peninsula No. 1), spacing must be reduced through structural calculation to ensure even load distribution. Through professional structural verification, Qinglong developed a densified installation spacing scheme for oversized components.
Load analysis is the core basis for setting spacing. GRC installation spacing must meet mechanical requirements such as wind load resistance, seismic resistance, and dead load bearing, to prevent component deformation or detachment caused by excessive spacing. When undertaking large public building projects, Qinglong works with structural engineers to perform load calculations, determining reasonable spacing based on parameters such as the wind pressure value and seismic fortification intensity at the project location. For example, in the GRC curtain wall project of Shenzhen Longhua Xiangshan Science and Technology Park, located in a coastal area with high wind pressure, Qinglong enhanced the curtain wall's wind resistance stability by reducing installation spacing and adding fixing points. For GRC components on high-rise buildings, spacing must also account for seismic requirements, ensuring that structural integrity is maintained under earthquake action.
Application scenarios and functional requirements influence spacing design. Indoor and outdoor settings, and whether components are exposed to harsh environments, impose different requirements on spacing. Outdoor projects must consider thermal expansion and contraction; expansion joints of generally 5-10mm should be reserved in GRC component spacing. In the Sichuan Panzhihua Third Front Construction Cultural Tourism Demonstration Project, given the large temperature differences of the plateau, Qinglong appropriately increased the expansion joint spacing to prevent components from cracking due to thermal expansion and contraction. For indoor projects such as the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center, where GRG interior finishes are combined with GRC components, installation spacing places greater emphasis on aesthetics and spatial coordination, with precise calculations ensuring uniform joint gaps to enhance the decorative effect.
Combining industry standards with project customization. GRC installation spacing must follow the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) (JGJ/T423-2018), which provides guiding requirements for the installation spacing of different types of components. As an enterprise that participated in drafting the standard, Qinglong makes customized adjustments in actual projects by combining the standard with customer requirements. For example, in the Guangzhou Dongzhu Shangdu Commercial City project, GRC hanging panels adopted a multi-point hanging form, with installation spacing far exceeding conventional requirements. Through rigorous calculation and repeated verification, Qinglong developed a dedicated spacing scheme, ensuring that installation precision and safety performance met the required standards. Scientific spacing determination is key to GRC installation quality. With professional structural calculations, extensive project experience, and customized services, Qinglong provides optimal spacing solutions for every project, balancing safety, aesthetics, and practicality.
