Can the Sound Insulation Performance of Perforated UHPC Curtain Wall Panels Meet Residential Building Requirements? Optimization Design and Performance Verification

Whether the sound insulation performance of hollowed-out UHPC facade panels can meet residential building requirements depends on the hollowing rate, structural design, and sound insulation optimization measures. Conventional UHPC facade panels with a hollowing rate ≤30% can achieve a weighted sound reduction index of 35-40dB, which can be raised to over 45dB through composite sound insulation structures, fully meeting the residential sound insulation requirements of ≥45dB for partition walls between units and ≥30dB for exterior walls. Through technical optimization, Qinglong has achieved sound insulation compliance for hollowed-out UHPC facade panels in multiple projects.

Impact of hollowing rate on sound insulation performance: controlling the ratio is the foundation. The sound insulation performance of hollowed-out UHPC facade panels is negatively correlated with the hollowing rate—the lower the hollowing rate, the better the sound insulation effect: at a hollowing rate ≤20%, the weighted sound reduction index can reach 38-42dB; at 20%-30%, the sound reduction index is 35-38dB; at >30%, it drops to 30-35dB. Residential exterior walls require sound insulation ≥30dB, while partition walls between units require ≥45dB. Therefore, a hollowing rate controlled within 30% can meet exterior wall requirements, while partition walls need further optimization. In the Ouargla Hotel project in Algeria, Qinglong's UHPC hollowed-out panels had a hollowing rate of 50%; through a composite sound insulation structure (adding sound insulation wool and a back panel on the inner side of the hollowed-out areas), the sound reduction index was raised to 46dB, meeting the sound insulation requirements of hotel guest rooms. For a residential building's exterior wall hollowed-out UHPC facade with a 25% hollowing rate, the sound reduction index reached 39dB, far exceeding the 30dB exterior wall standard.

Composite sound insulation structure: the key means of improving performance. A single hollowed-out UHPC facade panel has limited sound insulation performance and requires optimization through composite structures: 1) Filling the hollowed-out areas with centrifugal glass wool (thickness ≥50mm, density ≥48kg/m³) uses the porous structure of the glass wool to absorb sound waves, improving the sound reduction index by 5-8dB; 2) Adding a UHPC back panel (thickness ≥15mm) on the inner side of the hollowed-out areas forms a dual-layer "panel + air layer + back panel" structure that uses the elastic effect of the air layer to consume sound wave energy, improving the sound reduction index by 8-10dB; 3) Applying a damping coating on the surface absorbs vibrational sound waves, improving the sound reduction index by 3-5dB. Qinglong's composite sound insulation structures can be combined as needed. In a residential project, a hollowed-out UHPC partition wall between units using a "hollowed-out panel + 50mm glass wool + 15mm back panel" achieved a sound reduction index of 47dB, meeting the partition wall requirements.

Supplementary improvements in sound insulation from materials and craftsmanship. UHPC material itself has high density (porosity ≤5%), offering better sound insulation performance than ordinary concrete. Testing by Qinglong shows that solid UHPC facade panels can achieve a sound reduction index of 42-45dB, providing a foundation for the sound insulation of hollowed-out panels. In terms of production processes, the shape and arrangement of the hollowed-out holes also affect sound insulation: circular holes provide better sound insulation than square holes, and staggered arrangements perform better than aligned ones, as they reduce the sound wave penetration path. Qinglong's hollowed-out UHPC facade panels mostly use circular holes with staggered arrangements; at the same hollowing rate, the sound reduction index is 3-5dB higher than that of aligned square holes.

Testing and verification of sound insulation performance: data-supported compliance. Qinglong's hollowed-out UHPC facade panels are all sent to third-party institutions for testing in accordance with GB/T 50121-2005 Rating Standard of Sound Insulation in Buildings to ensure the sound reduction index meets requirements. In a residential building project, Qinglong's hollowed-out UHPC exterior wall panels tested at a weighted sound reduction index of 39dB, while partition walls between units with composite sound insulation structures reached 46dB, both meeting code requirements. In the Shanghai New World project, the hollowed-out UHPC wood-effect translucent panels with a 28% hollowing rate achieved a sound reduction index of 38dB, which, combined with the building's overall sound insulation design, met the sound insulation requirements of residential buildings surrounding the commercial plaza. In addition, Qinglong can provide customized sound insulation solutions based on project needs, precisely matching residential building sound insulation standards by adjusting the hollowing rate and composite structure.

Through scientific design, the sound insulation performance of hollowed-out UHPC facade panels can fully meet residential building requirements, with the core lying in controlling the hollowing rate and adopting composite sound insulation structures. Leveraging material advantages, structural optimization, and precise testing, Qinglong provides residential buildings with hollowed-out UHPC facade solutions that combine decorative appeal with sound insulation performance. For owners and designers, there is no need to worry about hollowed-out designs affecting sound insulation; by choosing a manufacturer with sound insulation optimization capabilities, the unity of aesthetics and practicality can be achieved. Qinglong safeguards the sound insulation of residential buildings with professional expertise.
