GRC delivers outstanding strength performance. Through the synergy of glass fibres and the cement matrix, it far exceeds ordinary cement products in core mechanical properties such as compressive, flexural and tensile strength, fully meeting the strength requirements of building structures and decoration. Products from leading manufacturers such as Qinglong offer even more stable and reliable strength.
I. Core Mechanical Strength Indicators: Far Exceeding Industry Standards
GRC's strength indicators fully meet standards and show outstanding performance. Compressive strength: high-quality GRC has a compressive strength of ≥40MPa, and Qinglong products can reach 50-60MPa, far exceeding ordinary concrete (20-30MPa), capable of bearing building dead weight and external loads. Flexural strength: this is GRC's core advantage; the industry standard requires ≥10MPa, and through optimized fibre ratios and production processes, Qinglong products achieve a flexural strength of 15-25MPa, suitable for large-span and thin-walled components—for example, a 15mm-thick GRC decorative panel still maintains good flexural performance. Tensile strength: ordinary cement products have extremely low tensile strength (≤2MPa), while GRC, thanks to the reinforcement of alkali-resistant glass fibres, raises tensile strength to 3-5MPa, effectively preventing cracking. Qinglong once conducted tensile tests on double-curved components, achieving an elongation at break of over 0.5%, meeting the load-bearing needs of complex shapes.
II. The Core Principle Behind Strength Assurance: Fibre Reinforcement Mechanism
GRC's high strength derives from a scientific material composite mechanism. Fibre reinforcement: alkali-resistant glass fibres are evenly distributed in the cement matrix, forming a three-dimensional support network; under load, the fibres absorb energy and prevent crack propagation, effectively 'reinforcing' the cement. Qinglong uses imported alkali-resistant fibres with the fibre content strictly controlled at 3%-5% to ensure the reinforcement effect. Matrix density: a low water-binder ratio formulation combined with vibration and pressurization processes gives the cement matrix high density and low porosity, which not only improves compressive strength but also safeguards the bond between fibres and matrix. Qinglong's automated production lines precisely control the water-binder ratio, achieving a matrix density above 95%. Production process optimization: strict control over precise batching, constant-temperature curing, and quality inspection avoids strength fluctuations caused by process defects. Qinglong has established a 'three-inspection, three-check' system, conducting strength sampling tests on every batch of products with a pass rate above 99%.
III. Strength Performance in Practical Applications: Case Verification
Numerous engineering cases confirm the reliability of GRC's strength. Thin-walled component application: the Wuhan Han Show Theatre uses 15mm-thick carved GRC panels installed in a suspended manner, bearing wind loads and dead weight over the long term with no deformation or cracking in more than ten years of use; the flexural strength of Qinglong's products for this project measured 18MPa. Large-span application: the GRC roof of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Centre covers an area of 120,000 square metres, fitting bidirectional bending-torsion large-span structures with a compressive strength of 55MPa, meeting roof load-bearing and structural safety requirements. Complex shape application: the double-curved GRC components of the Guangxi New Media Centre reach 6 square metres per piece with a thickness of only 25mm; thanks to excellent tensile and flexural strength, structural stability of complex curved surfaces is achieved. Qinglong's products passed third-party testing, with strength indicators far exceeding design requirements.
