Due to their special curved surface geometry and relatively low stiffness, double-curved GRC panels are prone to curvature deformation caused by collisions and squeezing during transportation, requiring targeted protective measures and transportation plans. Drawing on its experience in transporting double-curved components for the Guangxi New Media Center, Qinglong explains the core measures and practical guidelines for curvature protection.
I. Component Protection Before Transportation
All-around protective treatment to enhance the deformation resistance of components. Surface protection: PE protective film is applied to the surface of double-curved GRC panels, and hard plastic corner guards are added at corners and edges, with a guard coverage of ≥100mm, to prevent collisions from damaging edges and corners and compromising the integrity of the curved surface. Reinforcement support treatment: temporary support frames are installed inside the components, with support points evenly distributed along the curved surface at spacing ≤800mm; rubber pads are placed between the support frames and the components to avoid surface damage—Qinglong's temporary supports increase component deformation resistance by 40%. Packaging method: small double-curved components are packed in wooden boxes filled with foam cushioning material; large components use custom steel frame packaging with an elastic cushioning layer between the frame and the component to ensure no relative movement during transportation.
II. Transportation Vehicle and Loading Plan Design
Adapting to the double-curved shape to ensure stable loading. Vehicle selection: flatbed trucks or semi-trailers are used; the cargo bed must be flat and equipped with securing devices (such as tensioners and buckles); transporting extra-wide or extra-high double-curved components requires an oversize transport permit. Loading method: double-curved GRC panels are loaded vertically or at an angle; flat stacking is strictly prohibited. When placed vertically, the angle to the truck side wall must be ≥80°; when placed at an angle, the inclination is controlled at 30-45° to ensure reasonable force distribution on the curved surface. Securing measures: high-strength steel wire ropes or nylon straps are used to secure components, with rubber pads placed between the straps and the components to prevent deformation from excessive local pressure; fixing points are spaced ≤1.5m apart, with no fewer than 4 fixing points per component. During loading, Qinglong uses tension meters to control strap tension, avoiding excessive tightening that could squeeze the components.
III. Transportation Route and In-Transit Control
Refined in-transit control to avoid transportation risks. Route planning: survey the transportation route in advance, avoiding bumpy sections, sharp turns and steep slopes, and select routes with flat road conditions and open visibility; transporting extra-large double-curved components requires clearing route obstacles in advance. Driving standards: keep the transportation speed within 40km/h; slow down when turning or braking (speed ≤15km/h) to prevent sudden acceleration or hard braking from causing inertial displacement of the components. In-transit inspection: stop every 2 hours of driving to check the securing condition and surface condition of components; retighten loose straps promptly and repair damaged protection promptly. Qinglong assigns onboard inspection personnel to ensure full-journey monitoring of transportation status.
IV. Curvature Protection During Unloading and Storage
Standardized unloading and storage to extend the effect of curvature protection. Unloading plan: use truck cranes or crawler cranes for unloading, with flexible lifting slings selected as lifting gear; rubber sleeves are placed where the slings contact the components, and lifting speed is ≤0.5m/s to prevent deformation from impact loads. Unloading sequence: unload following the "first loaded, last unloaded; last loaded, first unloaded" principle to avoid collisions with already unloaded components. Storage method: the storage site must be flat and hardened, laid with rubber pads or sleepers; double-curved components are stored vertically with spacing ≥300mm; temporary supports and barriers are set up to prevent tipping; storage time should not exceed 30 days. Through standardized storage, Qinglong keeps component curvature deformation within ±1mm, fully meeting installation requirements.
