The joint areas between GRC exterior walls and door/window openings are prone to leakage and easily crack due to thermal expansion and contraction. Refined design and standardized construction are required to achieve firm connection and reliable waterproofing, safeguarding building safety and aesthetics. Drawing on extensive project practice, Qinglong analyzes the core points and practical specifications for joint treatment.
I. Key Points for Preliminary Design Optimization of Joint Areas
Scientific design is the foundation of joint quality and helps avert potential risks in advance. Opening dimension allowance: door/window openings should be 20-30mm larger than the door/window frames to reserve sufficient space for adjustment and sealing, while ensuring that the verticality deviation of openings is ≤2mm/m and the flatness deviation is ≤3mm/m, preventing dimensional deviations from causing connection difficulties; GRC panel profile adaptation: GRC panels around openings adopt an 'outer-over-inner' overlap method, with the outer panels extending at least 50mm beyond the outer side of door/window frames to form drip protection and prevent rainwater from penetrating along the joints; corner reinforcement design: GRC reinforced corner fittings are set at the corners of door/window openings to enhance structural stability and reduce cracks caused by building settlement or thermal deformation. In the Guangzhou Dongzhu Shangdu project, Qinglong improved the crack resistance of joint areas through corner reinforcement design.
II. Specifications for Door/Window Frame Installation and Fixed Connection
The installation precision of door/window frames directly affects connection performance and must strictly follow the procedures. Installation datum calibration: first adjust the levelness and verticality of the door/window frames with deviation controlled within 1mm/m, and secure them with temporary fasteners to ensure precise positioning; connector selection and layout: use stainless steel connectors to avoid electrochemical corrosion, with connector spacing ≤600mm and ≤300mm near corner areas, ensuring firm fixing; coordinated installation with GRC panels: install the surrounding GRC panels after the door/window frames are completed, reserving a 10-15mm gap between the panels and the frames for subsequent sealing. Qinglong adopts 3D laser positioning technology to ensure precise alignment between door/window frames and GRC panels.
III. Core Process Points for Sealing and Waterproofing Treatment
Sealing and waterproofing is the key to leak prevention at joint areas and must be implemented in layers. Substrate cleaning: thoroughly remove dust, oil and debris from the gaps between GRC panels and door/window frames, and grind the GRC surface to a rough finish to enhance sealant adhesion; backer material filling: fill the gaps with closed-cell foam rods whose diameter is 20% larger than the gap width to ensure full filling and prevent the sealant from cracking under stress deformation; sealant application: use silicone weather-resistant sealant with low modulus and high movement capability (≥±25%), applying it with a two-component gluing process to ensure a uniform and continuous sealant layer free of bubbles or breaks. After application, carry out proper curing and avoid low temperatures or direct sunlight that would affect the curing effect. In the Nanning Liyuan Hotel project, Qinglong achieved zero leakage at joint areas through standardized sealing processes.
IV. Specialized Connection Solutions for Different Door and Window Types
Differentiated connection strategies are customized for different door and window characteristics. Aluminum doors and windows: since their thermal expansion coefficient differs greatly from that of GRC, the sealant thickness should be increased to 8-10mm and a 'sealant + gasket' double sealing system adopted to prevent sealing failure caused by temperature-difference deformation; plastic doors and windows: as the material is relatively brittle, elastic gaskets should be added between the door/window frames and GRC panels during connection to reduce compression damage, and more flexible polyurethane sealant should be selected; sliding doors and windows: focus on strengthening track waterproofing by setting drainage holes and water retainers to prevent rainwater from seeping indoors through the track, with drainage channels provided in the GRC panels outside the track; revolving doors: add sealing strips at the joint between the door frame and the sash, and use curved GRC panels for transition on the outer side of the opening to reduce rainwater retention. Qinglong provides specialized connection solutions for all types of doors and windows to ensure compatibility and reliability.
