Water curing of GRC panels is a critical process for ensuring strength development and durability; improper curing can easily lead to surface cracking, insufficient strength, and other problems. Setting a scientific water curing frequency requires comprehensive consideration of ambient temperature, humidity, and panel type. Drawing on curing experience from projects such as Guangzhou Dongzhu Shangdu and Zhongshan Yajule, Qinglong analyzes the core requirements and practical specifications.
I. Core Functions and Basic Principles of Water Curing
The core function of water curing is to keep the GRC panel surface moist, providing sufficient moisture for cement hydration to promote strength development while reducing surface shrinkage cracking. The basic principles include "prioritizing moisture retention, applying timely and appropriate amounts, and spraying uniformly and thoroughly," ensuring stable moisture for panels during the curing period (usually 28 days) and avoiding surface defects caused by alternating wet and dry conditions. Qinglong's curing specifications require that the relative humidity on the GRC panel surface be kept above 90% during curing to ensure full hydration and strength that meets standards.
II. Water Curing Frequency Standards for Different Environmental Conditions
Set the water spraying frequency precisely based on ambient temperature and humidity. Normal temperature, humid environments (temperature 15-25°C, relative humidity ≥60%): in the early curing period (days 1-7), spray water 2-3 times a day—once in the morning, at noon, and in the afternoon—to keep the surface moist; in the middle period (days 8-14), spray 1-2 times a day; in the later period (days 15-28), spray once every 2 days. High temperature, dry environments (temperature >30°C, relative humidity <50%): moisture evaporates quickly, so spray 4-5 times a day in the early curing period, once every 3-4 hours; mist spraying may be used to keep the surface continuously moist; in the middle period spray 2-3 times a day; in the later period spray once a day. Low temperature environments (temperature <10°C): hydration is slow, so spraying once a day is sufficient; avoid over-spraying that could cause freezing damage, and combine with covering insulation materials.
III. Practical Specifications and Precautions for Water Curing
Standardized operation ensures curing results and avoids common curing mistakes. Use sprayers or watering cans as spraying tools, avoiding direct high-pressure water jets to prevent loss of surface mortar; spraying must be uniform and thorough, covering the entire panel surface, especially edges, corners, and joints, ensuring no dry areas; in the early curing period, avoid standing water on the panel surface, as water accumulation tends to cause surface dusting—spraying should keep the surface "moist without pooling"; during curing, cover panels with geotextile or plastic film to reduce moisture evaporation and extend moisture retention time; in the Shanghai Xinghewan project, Qinglong achieved remarkable results with a combined "watering + covering" curing approach. Precautions: avoid spraying water at high-temperature midday to prevent surface cracking caused by excessive temperature differences; never use wastewater for spraying to avoid contaminating the panel surface.
IV. Adjusted Water Curing Plans for Special Types of GRC Panels
Adjust curing plans for different types of GRC panels. Ultra-thin GRC panels (thickness <15mm): moisture evaporates quickly and cracking occurs easily, so the water spraying frequency should be 50% higher than for standard panels—4-5 times a day in the early curing period, along with reinforced covering protection; shaped GRC panels (such as curved or openwork panels): the surface is uneven, so when spraying, focus on concave and openwork areas to ensure no dry dead zones; localized mist spraying may be used as supplementary curing; colored GRC panels: spray gently to avoid uneven surface color caused by water erosion; in the later curing period, a curing agent may be applied to replace water curing, keeping the surface clean and attractive. In the Nanning Fengjingwan colored GRC project, Qinglong achieved later-stage curing with a dedicated curing agent, ensuring both strength and appearance protection.
V. Quality Control and Effect Verification of Water Curing
Strict quality control ensures that curing results meet standards. Assign dedicated personnel to curing work, record watering times, frequencies, and environmental parameters, and establish curing records; regularly check panel surface moisture and strength development—strength at 7 days of curing must reach at least 60% of the design strength, and 100% at 28 days; use a rebound hammer to test surface strength, combined with visual inspection, with no cracks or dusting qualifying as acceptable. Through standardized curing management, Qinglong ensures a GRC panel curing pass rate above 99%, providing a guarantee for the long-term stability of components.
