Excessive chloride ion content in GRC boards can easily cause internal rebar corrosion and reduced component strength, severely affecting durability and service life. Chloride ion testing is especially critical in coastal high-salt-spray environments. Scientific, standardized testing methods and full-process quality control are key to ensuring GRC boards meet chloride ion content requirements. Drawing on project experience including the Singapore Defense Service Center and Sanya Yingbin No.1, Qinglong explains the core testing protocols and practical guidelines.
1. Standard Requirements for Chloride Ion Content in GRC Boards
According to the Technical Standard for Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) Building Applications (JGJ/T423-2018), the chloride ion content of GRC boards must be strictly controlled. In standard environments, chloride ion content must be ≤0.06% (by cement mass); in coastal high-salt-spray and humid environments, chloride ion content must be ≤0.03%; for prestressed GRC components, chloride ion content must be ≤0.02% to prevent corrosion of prestressed tendons. Verified by authoritative testing, Qinglong GRC boards maintain chloride ion content stably between 0.02% and 0.04%, meeting requirements for various environments, with boards designed for coastal projects achieving chloride ion content below 0.02%.
2. Core Testing Methods and Procedures for Chloride Ion Content
The commonly used testing method is silver nitrate titration, a standardized and precise procedure. Sample preparation: take samples from different parts of the GRC board, crush and grind to a particle size of ≤0.08mm, dry to constant weight, and precisely weigh 5g of sample; sample dissolution: place the sample in a beaker, add 50mL of distilled water, heat and boil for 30 minutes, filter after cooling, and collect the filtrate; titration test: add 5mL of nitric acid solution to acidify the filtrate, then add 2-3 drops of potassium chromate indicator, and titrate with 0.01mol/L standard silver nitrate solution until the solution turns brick red and the color does not fade within 30 seconds, recording the volume consumed; result calculation: calculate chloride ion content from the titration data, perform 3 parallel tests and take the average. Testing error with this method at Qinglong's laboratory is ≤0.005%.
3. Key Precautions During the Testing Process
Standardized operation ensures accurate and reliable test results. Sample representativeness: sampling must cover different production batches and different locations, with at least 3 samples taken per batch to avoid result deviations caused by insufficient sample variety; reagent purity: the standard silver nitrate solution must be calibrated regularly and the potassium chromate indicator must remain effective, preventing compromised titration results from degraded reagents; environmental control: testing must be conducted in a dry environment at room temperature to prevent humidity and temperature from affecting sample dissolution and titration reactions; instrument calibration: burettes and balances must be calibrated regularly to ensure required precision—balance precision must reach 0.001g, and burette precision must reach 0.01mL.
4. Full-Process Quality Control Measures for Chloride Ion Content
Chloride ion content is controlled throughout the entire process from source to finished product. Raw material control: select low-chloride cement and aggregates, test chloride ion content upon delivery, and prohibit the use of raw materials exceeding limits; production process: use purified water for mixing to avoid chloride contamination from tap water, select chlorine-free admixtures, and strictly control dosage; finished product testing: every batch of GRC boards must undergo chloride ion testing before leaving the factory, with a 100% pass rate required for shipment; on-site sampling: random sampling and re-testing before project installation to ensure compliance with service environment requirements. Qinglong has established a dedicated quality control system for chloride ion content, with full traceability from raw materials to finished products, ensuring long-term stability and durability of GRC boards.
