When UHPC panels are used for roofs, waterproofing treatment must address both the material's inherent impermeability and the rationality of structural design to resist multiple erosion factors such as rainwater, snow accumulation, and ultraviolet rays. Drawing on 28 years of roofing engineering experience, Qinglong Group has developed a four-dimensional solution of "material impermeability - structural waterproofing - joint sealing - drainage guidance", successfully applied in roof projects such as the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center and the Third Front Construction Project in Panzhihua, Sichuan, achieving a waterproofing qualification rate of 99.8% and long-term leak-free operation.
I. Material Level: Strengthening the Impermeability Foundation of UHPC Itself
Optimized formula to enhance impermeability: a low water-binder ratio (0.18-0.20) and high active powder content are adopted to keep UHPC porosity ≤1% and impermeability grade ≥P12. Qinglong's self-developed roof-specific UHPC formula achieves water penetration height ≤3mm, far exceeding industry standards. Surface protective treatment: fluorocarbon coating (thickness ≥35μm) or penetrating waterproofing agent is applied to form a dense waterproof layer; the fluorocarbon coating achieves IPX5 waterproof rating, capable of resisting continuous rain and ultraviolet erosion. Vulnerable areas such as roof edges and parapet walls receive 1-2 additional coats of waterproofing layer to enhance local impermeability. Qinglong applied this solution to a roof project in Hainan, where the impermeability performance meets the requirements of long-term exposure.
II. Structural Level: Designing Waterproof Barriers and Drainage Paths
Roof slope design: a slope ≥2% ensures rapid rainwater flow and avoids ponding. Qinglong designed a 3% slope for a commercial complex roof, and combined with a linear drainage system, drainage efficiency was improved by 40%. Sandwich waterproofing structure: a composite structure of "UHPC panel + insulation layer + waterproofing layer" is adopted, with TPO or SBS modified asphalt membrane selected as the waterproofing layer, closely bonded with UHPC panels to form dual protection. Qinglong achieved integrated waterproofing and insulation through this structure in the roof project of the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park. Bay separation design: large roofs are divided into bays of ≤10m×10m, with expansion joints (width 10-15mm) filled with elastic sealant to absorb thermal expansion and contraction deformation and prevent panel cracking from causing leaks.
III. Joint Level: Precise Prevention and Control of Leak-Prone Areas
Panel joint sealing: neutral silicone sealant with ±25% movement capability is used, with panel joint width of 8-10mm and depth ≥1.5 times the width, and foam rod backing built in to ensure the sealant joint is full and bubble-free. Qinglong uses specialized caulking tools to ensure the sealant bonds firmly with the panels, eliminating cracking risks. Internal and external corner treatment: internal and external corners adopt curved transitions (radius ≥50mm) to avoid ponding at right angles, and additional waterproofing layers (width ≥500mm) are added. Qinglong resolved the problem of corner leakage susceptibility through this treatment in a roof project in Guangxi. Pipes and skylight perimeters: reserved openings are sized 50-100mm larger than the pipe outer diameter, gaps are filled with waterproof mortar + sealant, and metal flashing is installed on the outside. Qinglong treated the roof pipe perimeters for a project, which passed rainstorm tests without any leakage.
IV. Drainage System: Rapid Water Discharge to Avoid Ponding Risks
Drainage outlet placement: one drainage outlet (diameter ≥100mm) is set per 100㎡, positioned at roof low points. In the 120,000㎡ roof project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong rationally planned drainage outlet positions, achieving a drainage speed of 1.5L/s·㎡. Gutter design: longitudinal and transverse gutters are set with slope ≥1% and width ≥300mm, coated internally with waterproof coating to ensure rainwater quickly flows into the drainage outlets and avoid gutter ponding.
UHPC panel roof waterproofing is a systematic project. Through material optimization, structural design, and refined joint treatment, Qinglong Group has built a comprehensive waterproofing system. Choosing scientific waterproofing solutions and manufacturers with engineering experience is the core guarantee for achieving long-term stable roof waterproofing.
