The mold requirements for UHPC single-curved panels and double-curved panels differ significantly due to varying surface complexity, directly affecting mold material selection, processing techniques, precision control, and cost investment. Qinglong Group, as an enterprise capable of producing both types of components, leverages 28 years of mold R&D experience to clearly define the core differences between the two types of molds, providing precise mold solutions for projects such as the Shanghai Astronomy Museum and Guangxi New Media Center to ensure component forming quality.
1. Mold Material Selection Differences: Adapting to Surface Complexity
Single-curved panel molds: adjustable steel molds or GRP molds can be used. Adjustable steel molds (lower cost, turnover ≥30 times) are suitable for batch production of single-curved panels with identical curvature, achieving different curvature requirements by adjusting the template arc. Qinglong selected this mold for single-curved decorative lines in a residential project, with a curvature adjustment range of 300-2000mm. GRP molds (higher precision, ≤±0.5mm) are suitable for medium-batch, slightly more complex single-curved panels; Qinglong used them in the single-curved exterior wall panel project for the Yirui Biotechnology Building in Shenzhen, balancing precision and cost. Double-curved panel molds: customized GRP molds or polyurethane molds are required; adjustable structures cannot be used. Polyurethane molds (precision ≤±0.4mm, strong texture replication capability) are suitable for complex double-curvature components. Qinglong customized this mold for the Guangxi New Media Center double-curved panels (no two panels are identical), achieving a surface conformity of 99.8%. GRP molds (high strength, turnover ≥20 times) are suitable for batch double-curved panels; Qinglong used them in the double-curved panel project for the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park, balancing precision and production efficiency.
2. Processing Technique and Structural Design Differences
Single-curved panel mold processing: relatively simple techniques; steel molds can be processed with CNC bending machines or GRP molds can be hand-laminated, with short processing cycles (3-7 days/set). The structural design adopts a single-curved shell + stiffening ribs, with rib spacing ≤500mm to ensure mold rigidity and avoid deformation during pouring. Double-curved panel mold processing: requires four major steps—3D scanning and modeling → CNC engraving → manual fine finishing → trial mold adjustment—with long processing cycles (10-15 days/set). The structural design adopts a double-curved shell + zoned stiffening ribs + support frame, with rib spacing ≤300mm and a steel support frame to ensure the mold does not deform during low-pressure grouting. The support frame Qinglong designed for the 3-meter-high double-curved sculpture mold for the Shanghai Astronomy Museum increased rigidity by 40%.
3. Precision Requirements and Testing Standard Differences
Dimensional precision: single-curved panel mold dimensional deviation ≤±0.8mm, double-curved panel molds ≤±0.5mm; curvature precision: single-curved panel curvature radius deviation ≤±3mm, double-curved panels ≤±2mm; surface flatness: single-curved panels ≤0.5mm/m, double-curved panels ≤0.3mm/m. Testing methods: single-curved panel molds are inspected with laser rangefinders, while double-curved panel molds require full-size inspection with 3D laser scanners, generating point cloud data to compare against design models and promptly correcting areas exceeding deviation limits. In the Guangxi New Media Center project, Qinglong achieved a 100% compliance rate for double-curved panel mold precision through this testing method.
4. Cost and Turnover Efficiency Differences
Cost differences: for the same area, double-curved panel mold costs are 2.5-3.5 times those of single-curved panel molds, mainly due to customized processing and complex structures. Turnover efficiency: single-curved steel molds have a turnover of ≥50 times, GRP molds ≥30 times; double-curved polyurethane molds have a turnover of ≤15 times, GRP molds ≥20 times, meaning double-curved panel mold turnover efficiency is significantly lower than that of single-curved panels. Qinglong's optimization solutions: for batch double-curved panel projects, a "universal frame + replaceable curved surface module" design reduces mold costs by 30%; for single-curved panel projects, adjustable steel molds are promoted to reduce mold quantities and improve turnover efficiency.
The mold requirements for UHPC single-curved panels and double-curved panels—whose core differences stem from surface complexity—require targeted selection and design. With its mold R&D and production experience, Qinglong Group provides precise mold solutions for different types of components, balancing precision, cost, and efficiency to help bring designers' creative visions to life.
