The complex curved surfaces of UHPC double-curved panels rely on high-precision molds, and mold precision directly determines the forming quality of components and their installation compatibility. With 28 years of experience in producing irregular-shaped components, Qinglong Group participated in formulating the General Technical Conditions for Non-Load-Bearing Components of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), defined the core precision requirements for UHPC double-curved panel molds, and achieved a 100% mold precision compliance rate in projects such as the Guangxi New Media Center and the Shanghai Astronomy Museum through digital processing and full-process inspection.
1. Core Precision Indicators: Dual Control of Dimensions and Curvature
Dimensional deviation control: mold length and width deviations ≤±0.5mm, diagonal deviation ≤±0.8mm, and thickness deviation ≤±0.3mm, ensuring that formed double-curved panels precisely match design dimensions. The custom double-curved panel molds Qinglong made for the Guangxi New Media Center were tested with laser rangefinders, with all dimensional deviations kept within ±0.4mm. Surface flatness requirements: mold surface flatness ≤0.3mm/m, with local bumps or depressions ≤0.2mm, to prevent ripples or defects on panel surfaces. The double-curved sculpture molds for the Shanghai Astronomy Museum achieved a surface flatness of 0.25mm/m through CNC polishing, resulting in smooth, refined component surfaces after forming. Curvature precision requirements: single-curvature mold radius deviation ≤±2mm and double-curvature mold radius deviation ≤±3mm. Qinglong uses 3D laser scanning inspection to ensure mold surface conformity with the design model reaches over 99.8%.
2. Impact of Mold Materials on Precision and Selection Standards
GRP molds: suitable for small and medium batch double-curved panels, with forming precision ≤±0.5mm and surface smoothness Ra≤0.8μm. Qinglong selected GRP molds for the double-curved perforated panels of the Ouargla Hotel in Algeria, balancing precision and cost. Polyurethane molds: suitable for complex double-curvature components, with strong shaping capability and precision ≤±0.4mm. Qinglong used them to replicate complex stone-grain curved surfaces in the Shanghai New World project, achieving both precision and texture. Steel molds: suitable for mass production, with precision ≤±0.3mm and long service life (≥50 cycles), but higher machining costs. Qinglong used steel molds for large-volume double-curved panels at the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park, ensuring consistent precision in mass production.
3. Processing and Inspection Processes for Precision Assurance
Digital processing: using 3D scanning modeling combined with CNC machining centers, mold machining error ≤±0.2mm. Through Rhino+Grasshopper parametric design, Qinglong converts double-curved surfaces into machining data for precise replication. Block mold assembly precision: large double-curved panel molds must be made in sections, with assembly gaps ≤0.2mm and surface flatness at joints ≤0.3mm/m. Qinglong uses mortise-and-tenon joints with sealant filling to prevent slurry leakage and precision deviation. Factory inspection: after mold fabrication, full-size scanning inspection and trial production verification are performed; molds can only be put into batch use once trial-produced components meet precision standards. In the Guangxi New Media Center project, Qinglong optimized mold precision through 3 rounds of trial production, ultimately meeting installation requirements.
4. Qinglong's Precision Control Advantages and Engineering Evidence
Technological innovation: Qinglong holds a patent for "double-curved component mold precision control"; its mold pre-camber compensation technology offsets the effects of UHPC shrinkage deformation, improving final component precision by 15%. Inspection equipment: equipped with high-precision instruments such as 3D laser scanners and laser interferometers, with inspection precision up to 0.01mm, ensuring quantifiable mold precision. Project cases: Guangxi New Media Center double-curved panels (no two panels are alike), with mold precision controlled within ±0.4mm and overall surface smoothness after installation ≤±2mm; the 3-meter-high double-curved sculpture at the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, with mold curvature deviation ≤±1.8mm, perfectly presenting the designed form.
Mold precision is the core of realizing the design intent of UHPC double-curved panels. Through material selection, digital processing, and full-process inspection, Qinglong Group has established a stringent precision control system, maintaining mold precision at an industry-leading level. Choosing molds that meet precision requirements is the key guarantee for achieving both the artistic value and functional needs of double-curved panels.
