The high strength (compressive strength ≥150MPa) and high density of UHPC material place stringent demands on cutting saw blades and processes. Selecting the right blade type and following standardized operation are essential to avoiding panel edge damage and ensuring cutting precision. Drawing on 28 years of UHPC/GRC/GRP processing experience, Qinglong Group has developed a full-process system of "blade selection - cutting preparation - standardized operation - post-processing," successfully completing projects such as the cutting of 12㎡ oversized panels for Shanghai New World and the precision cutting of hollow panels for Algeria, achieving a cutting pass rate of 99.5%.
I. Blade Type Selection: Key to Matching UHPC Characteristics
Diamond saw blades are the first choice: diamond's high hardness (Mohs hardness 10) and strong wear resistance make it the only suitable blade type for cutting UHPC. Blades must meet the following parameters: spring steel base (3-5mm thick), diamond particle size of 30-40 mesh, concentration of 100%-120%, and a metal bond (suitable for high-hardness materials). The special diamond saw blades used by Qinglong come in diameters selected according to cutting needs: 300-500mm diameter blades for straight cuts, 100-200mm diameter blades for curved cuts, and 80-120mm diameter blades for hollow cuts. Blade types are further divided: dry-cutting blades (suitable for small-size, simple cuts without dust treatment equipment), but with low cutting efficiency and fast blade wear; wet-cutting blades (equipped with a cooling water system, suitable for large-size, high-precision cuts), which cool and reduce dust, extending blade life. Qinglong uses wet-cutting blades for all factory cutting, while on-site cutting depends on conditions. Wet-cutting blades last 3-5 times longer than dry-cutting ones.
II. Pre-Cutting Preparation: Prerequisites for Precision and Safety
Marking and positioning: use an ink marker plus tape measure for precise marking; for complex shapes (such as curves and hollow patterns), use BIM lofting plus template positioning, with cutting line deviation ≤1mm. In the cutting of shaped panels for the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, Qinglong achieved a positioning deviation ≤0.5mm through BIM lofting. Panel fixing: use special clamps (such as hydraulic clamps and vacuum suction cup clamps) to fix panels, preventing edge damage caused by vibration during cutting; clamp spacing ≤300mm, with clamps near the cutting line within ≤100mm. Qinglong's special clamps avoid damaging panel surfaces. Equipment calibration: check the cutting machine speed (3000-5000r/min for diamond saw blades) and blade verticality (deviation ≤0.1mm/m) to ensure stable equipment operation; for wet cutting, adjust the cooling water flow (≥5L/min) to ensure adequate cooling of the blade and cutting surface.
III. Cutting Process Standards: Operation Details Determine Cutting Quality
Cutting speed control: straight cutting speed 50-100mm/min, curved cutting speed 30-50mm/min, hollow cutting speed 20-30mm/min; excessive speed can easily cause blade overheating and panel edge chipping. When cutting 30mm thick UHPC panels, Qinglong controls the straight cutting speed at 80mm/min, achieving an edge integrity rate of 99%. Cutting path selection: cut straight lines before curves, and outer contours before inner hollows, avoiding panel cracking caused by stress concentration; for thick panels (≥30mm), use "layered cutting" with a cutting depth of 10-15mm per layer, advancing gradually. When cutting 50mm thick hollow panels, Qinglong avoided internal cracking through layered cutting. Cooling and dust removal: during wet cutting, ensure cooling water continuously sprays the blade and cutting seam to lower the temperature (kept below 60℃); during dry cutting, equip a vacuum cleaner to reduce dust pollution and protect operators' health.
IV. Post-Processing and Blade Maintenance: Extending Quality and Efficiency
Cutting edge treatment: use an angle grinder (fitted with diamond grinding discs) to polish cut edges, removing burrs and chipped edges (grinding width 5-10mm) for smooth, flat edges (flatness ≤0.5mm/m). In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotech Building project, Qinglong's polished cut edges could be installed directly without secondary treatment. Blade maintenance: after cutting, rinse residual dust and debris from the blade surface with clean water, then store after drying; when blades wear out (reduced cutting efficiency, jagged edges), regrind them promptly (re-coating with diamond particles). Qinglong's blade regrinding service can extend blade service life by 2-3 times. Quality inspection: check cutting dimensional deviation (≤±2mm) and edge integrity (no chipping larger than 2mm), and correct non-conforming areas promptly. Qinglong's cutting quality inspection standards exceed industry requirements, ensuring installation fit.
The key to successful UHPC panel cutting lies in precise diamond saw blade selection and standardized operation. With professional tools, teams, and processes, Qinglong Group achieves high precision and high integrity in UHPC panel cutting, ensuring subsequent installation and decorative results. Choosing the right blade and process is key to avoiding cutting waste and controlling costs.
