Which Properties Do UHPC's "Three Highs and One Low" Characteristics Refer To?

UHPC has become a preferred choice for high-end architectural decoration materials, fundamentally due to its outstanding “Three Highs and One Low” characteristics. These four performance properties are interconnected and mutually reinforcing, together forming UHPC's technical barriers. As a leading enterprise with 28 years of deep industry experience, Qinglong Group has brought the “Three Highs and One Low” characteristics to the fullest through technological innovation and engineering practice, providing premium material solutions for numerous landmark projects.

The first “High”: ultra-high strength, the core breakthrough in mechanical performance. The high strength of UHPC is mainly reflected in its compressive strength and flexural strength. According to industry standards, its minimum cubic compressive strength is ≥120MPa and its flexural strength ≥25MPa, far exceeding ordinary C80 concrete (compressive strength 80MPa, flexural strength about 10MPa). Through optimized cementitious material proportions and selected premium fibers (such as imported steel fibers), Qinglong Group's UHPC products achieve a stable compressive strength of over 150MPa and a flexural strength exceeding 30MPa. In the Shanghai Astronomy Museum public art project, UHPC sculptures over 3 meters tall maintain structural stability without additional support thanks to their ultra-high strength, perfectly demonstrating the material's mechanical advantages. This high strength enables UHPC components to adopt thin-wall designs, reducing building loads while expanding design freedom.

The second “High”: high durability, a reliable guarantee for long-term use. High durability is the key characteristic that distinguishes UHPC from ordinary concrete, mainly manifested in freeze-thaw resistance, carbonation resistance, corrosion resistance, and weathering resistance. After 200 freeze-thaw cycles, Qinglong's UHPC products show a strength loss rate of only 3%-5%, far below the industry standard of 10%; carbonation depth is ≤3mm, effectively resisting carbon dioxide attack and delaying rebar corrosion (if reinforced); in corrosive environments such as seaside and humid areas, the combination of dense structure and corrosion-resistant fibers ensures no obvious aging or cracking for over 20 years. For example, the UHPC components of the Hainan Changying Global 100 Fantasy Park have long been exposed to high temperature and high humidity, yet remain in good condition after many years, fully verifying their high durability. This characteristic makes UHPC particularly suitable for long-term applications such as public buildings and outdoor landscapes, reducing maintenance costs.

The third “High”: high workability, the foundation for realizing complex shapes. High workability means that UHPC maintains good flowability, cohesion, and plasticity even at a low water-binder ratio, adapting to different molding processes and complex shape requirements. By adding high-efficiency water reducers and optimizing particle grading, Qinglong Group achieves a UHPC flow spread of 200-250mm, allowing the mix to fill every corner of the mold during casting without intensive vibration, making it especially suitable for producing complex components such as double-curved surfaces, openwork, and oversized elements. In the Guangxi New Media Center project, no two of Qinglong's UHPC double-curved facade panels were alike; high workability enabled precise molding, with installation accuracy controlled within ±2mm. This high workability not only improves production efficiency but also ensures smooth, refined component surfaces, reducing later finishing work.

The “One Low”: low porosity, the structural support for performance synergy. Low porosity is the core foundation of the “Three Highs and One Low” characteristics. UHPC's porosity is typically ≤1%, far below that of ordinary concrete (porosity 15%-20%). This characteristic stems from the tight packing design of the base materials and a full hydration reaction. The dense microstructure not only blocks the intrusion of harmful substances such as water and chloride ions, ensuring high durability and high impermeability, but also provides structural support for high strength by reducing weak points where stress concentrates. In impermeability tests, Qinglong's UHPC products show a penetration height ratio of only 10%-15%, far exceeding the industry standard of 30%. In the openwork facade panel project of the Ouargla Hotel in Algeria, water seepage problems in the humid environment were effectively avoided. Low porosity enables UHPC's various properties to work in synergy, rather than as isolated improvements of individual performances.

The “Three Highs and One Low” characteristics of UHPC are a concentrated embodiment of its technical value and application advantages. Through 28 years of R&D and practice, Qinglong Group has transformed these characteristics into practical products and solutions, validated in numerous landmark projects. Understanding these four core performance properties helps customers accurately judge the quality of UHPC products and select suppliers with genuine technical strength. Qinglong has always upheld “Creating Aesthetic Architecture” as its mission, continuously optimizing product performance so that UHPC's advantages can be fully realized in more building projects.
