GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) and GRG (Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum), as two commonly used new decorative materials, differ significantly in core performance and applicable scenarios due to differences in their base material properties. Qinglong Group, an enterprise with full-chain service capabilities in both GRC and GRG, provides an in-depth analysis of their core differences based on 28 years of practical experience, offering a scientific selection reference for designers and owners.
Material composition and physical properties are the source of the core differences. GRC uses cement as its base material, mixed with alkali-resistant glass fibers and aggregates, featuring high strength and high durability, with a flexural strength of 15-20MPa and a density of approximately 1.8-2.0g/cm³, making it suitable for long-term outdoor use. GRG uses gypsum as its base material combined with alkali-resistant glass fibers, has a lighter texture with a density of approximately 1.5-1.7g/cm³ and a flexural strength of 8-12MPa, but weaker water resistance, making it more suitable for indoor environments. In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre (GRC) and the Huawei Songshan Lake Terminal Project (GRG), Qinglong fully leveraged the performance advantages of both materials through precise control of material proportions.
Weather resistance and applicable environments differ noticeably. GRC has excellent weather resistance, UV resistance, and freeze-thaw resistance, able to withstand harsh outdoor conditions such as wind, sun exposure, and temperature changes, and is widely used in building exterior walls, roofs, landscape components, and more. GRG has poor water resistance and is prone to moisture absorption and deformation after long-term exposure to humid environments, so it is mainly suitable for indoor ceilings, walls, decorative shapes, and the like. In the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center roof project (GRC) and the Zhuhai Chimelong ceiling project (GRG), Qinglong made precise material selections based on the service environment, ensuring that material performance matched scenario requirements.
Shaping capabilities and construction characteristics each have their own focus. GRC is suitable for producing large-size, complex curved, and irregularly shaped components, especially double-curved and openwork designs. Mold forming enables mass production, and installation is mainly by dry hanging, making it suitable for large outdoor projects. GRG offers greater design freedom and can achieve fine decorative effects such as reliefs and carvings; its components are lightweight and easy to install, suitable for high-precision indoor decoration. Especially in venues with high acoustic requirements (such as concert halls and theaters), GRG's sound absorption performance offers greater advantages. In the GRC curtain wall of the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center and the GRG ceiling project of the Zengcheng Cultural Conference Center, Qinglong fully demonstrated the shaping advantages of both materials.
As an enterprise with large-scale production capabilities in both GRC and GRG, Qinglong can provide precise material selection and customized solutions according to project needs. Whether it is an outdoor super-high double-curved GRC curtain wall or indoor high-precision GRG decoration, Qinglong can rely on its full-chain technical advantages to perfectly realize design concepts. Through scientific selection and professional construction, GRC and GRG can maximize their value in their respective applicable scenarios, adding unique charm to buildings.
