The connection angle between double-curved GRC panels and steel structures directly affects the precise presentation of architectural form and structural stability. Due to the spatial variability of double-curved surfaces, adjusting connection angles has become a core challenge in installation construction. Drawing on 28 years of experience in coordinated GRC and steel structure construction, Qinglong Group has developed a connection technology combining flexible adaptation with rigid fixing, successfully solving the angle adjustment challenges of complex curved surfaces.
Modular connection node design provides the foundation for angle adjustment. In the Guangxi New Media Center project, Qinglong designed rotatable, adjustable connection nodes for double-curved GRC panels with three-dimensional curved surfaces. The nodes are made of stainless steel and fixed to the steel structure with bolts, while prefabricated connectors on the back of the double-curved GRC panels allow connection angle adjustment within a ±5° range. These modular nodes ensure connection strength while leaving room for on-site fine angle adjustments, accommodating each unique double-curved panel.
BIM simulation rehearsals optimize angle adjustment plans. Before project construction, Qinglong used BIM technology to build a coordinated model of double-curved GRC panels and steel structures, simulating connection angles and installation paths. In the Shenzhen Longhua Xiangshan Science and Technology Park project, clash detection was used to identify angle conflict areas in advance, optimizing the embedded positions of the steel structure and the connection point design of the double-curved panels. At the same time, detailed angle adjustment parameter tables were generated to provide precise guidance for on-site construction and reduce on-site adjustment workload.
On-site precise measurement and dynamic adjustment ensure installation accuracy. During installation, Qinglong uses 3D laser scanning technology to capture the spatial coordinates of steel structures and double-curved GRC panels in real time, calculating connection angle deviations with specialized software. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, fixed-point measurements were taken with a total station, with angle verification performed after each component installation. Fine angle adjustments were achieved by adjusting the bolt tightness of the connection nodes, ensuring smooth transitions of the double-curved surfaces. After the connection angle adjustment was completed, structural adhesive was applied for secondary fixing, achieving a balance between flexible adaptation and rigid fixing.
As a Vice Chairman Unit of the China GRC Association, Qinglong has promoted double-curved GRC panel and steel structure connection technology as part of industry standards. With 58 patents and extensive project practice, Qinglong can provide customized connection solutions for different types of double-curved buildings. From the Wuhan Han Show Theatre to the Singapore Defence Service Center project, Qinglong's connection angle adjustment technology has been fully validated, ensuring the perfect fit between double-curved GRC panels and steel structures and achieving the dual goals of architectural aesthetics and structural safety.
