Key Design Points for Single-Curved GRC Panel Roof Drainage: A Core Solution Balancing Form and Functionality

Single-curved GRC panels, with their advantages of light weight, high strength and smooth shapes, are widely used on the roofs of large convention centers, cultural landmarks and other buildings, but the drainage design directly affects their durability and safety. Drainage slope optimization is the foundation of single-curved GRC panel roof design. Based on roof span and rainfall, Qinglong adopts differentiated slope schemes in its designs. In the Shanghai Qingpu R&D and production project, addressing the curved characteristics of the single-curved GRC panel roof, rainwater flow paths were simulated using BIM technology, with the minimum drainage slope controlled above 3% to ensure rainwater drains quickly off the roof and to avoid structural hazards caused by ponding. At the same time, architectural form requirements were taken into account, allowing slope changes to blend naturally with the curved surface.

Joint waterproofing and sealing technology builds a solid drainage line of defense. Panel seams, internal and external corners, and other joints on single-curved GRC panel roofs are weak points in drainage. In the Hainan Changying Global 100 Fantasy Park project, Qinglong adopted a combined scheme of specialized sealant and metal pressure strips, applying triple sealing to panel seams while installing drainage channels at joints to guide rainwater discharge in an orderly manner. Combined with Qinglong's independently developed waterproof GRC composite material, decoration and waterproofing are integrated, greatly improving roof waterproofing performance.

Drainage path planning must suit the characteristics of curved forms. The curved shape of single-curved GRC panel roofs requires more targeted drainage system design. In the Ningbo International Convention Center supporting landscape project, Qinglong adopted a design approach of multi-point water collection and zoned drainage, rationally positioning drainage outlets to ensure that the catchment area of each drainage zone matches its drainage capacity. The drainage outlets feature an anti-clogging design paired with concealed grilles, ensuring drainage efficiency without compromising the overall aesthetic effect of the roof.
