Flatness is the baseline of a GRC facade's appearance—deviation control directly determines the visual effect of the building facade and installation precision. As a group dedicated to full-chain UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP services for 28 years, Qinglong Group understands deeply the importance of flatness control for project quality. Drawing on hands-on experience from multiple Luban Award projects, it breaks down the industry standards and key control points.
The allowable flatness deviation range for exterior wall GRC is not a fixed value; it must be determined comprehensively based on component type, installation method, and application scenario. According to the Technical Standard for Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) in Buildings (JGJ/T423-2018), the allowable surface flatness deviation for flat-panel GRC facade boards is ≤3mm/2m, for curved components it is ≤5mm/2m, and the flatness deviation at joints must be ≤2mm. As a participating unit in the formulation of this standard, Qinglong enforces even stricter internal control standards in production and construction, keeping deviation values 30% below industry requirements.
Mold precision in the production stage is the source-level guarantee. Qinglong adopts digital mold technology, controlling mold surface flatness error within 0.5mm/2m, and uses integral steel molds for large components to avoid precision deviations caused by segmented molds. In the double-curved GRC project of the Guangxi New Media Center, BIM technology was used to optimize mold design, ensuring that the flatness of every irregular panel met the design requirements and ultimately delivering 11,500 square meters of double-curved facade with no visible deviation.
Precise positioning during installation is the key link. Qinglong employs an installation solution that combines 3D laser scanning with BIM technology: the base structure is first inspected for flatness and leveled, then GRC components are precisely positioned using adjustable anchoring brackets. In the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center project, real-time monitoring technology was applied throughout the installation of the 30,000-square-meter GRC curtain wall, keeping the overall flatness deviation within 2mm and helping the project win the Luban Award.
Material performance stability provides solid support. The shrinkage deformation of GRC components directly affects flatness. Through optimized mix ratios and curing processes, Qinglong keeps the drying shrinkage rate of components below 0.03%. Production combines steam curing with natural curing, ensuring that components leave the factory only after their strength has stabilized, thus avoiding flatness deviations caused by shrinkage deformation after installation.
At the factory end, a "three inspections, three tests" system is in place: every GRC component must undergo initial inspection, precise testing, and re-verification of surface flatness before leaving the factory, with dual testing by laser rangefinder and straightedge; non-conforming products are strictly barred from shipment. Before on-site construction begins, the base structure is comprehensively inspected, and leveling mortar or steel frames are used to adjust deviated areas, ensuring a flat installation reference surface.
During installation, the "sample first, then large scale" construction principle is implemented: a standard-floor sample installation is completed first, and overall construction proceeds only after acceptance by the designer and supervisor. Meanwhile, a professional technical team provides real-time guidance and promptly corrects installation deviations, ensuring that every process step meets flatness requirements.
Flatness control of exterior wall GRC is a test of a supplier's comprehensive strength, involving multiple dimensions such as mold technology, material R&D, and construction techniques. Qinglong Group, with the professionalism of a standard-setting participant and 28 years of full-chain experience, integrates flatness deviation control throughout the entire production and construction process, delivering refined and aesthetically pleasing building facades. Choosing a supplier with a rigorous quality control system and rich hands-on experience is the key to ensuring that GRC facade flatness meets standards and enhancing project quality.
