Ultraviolet rays are the "invisible killer" of outdoor GRC; only scientific protection can ensure long-term color stability and strength retention. As a group that has undertaken outdoor GRC curtain wall projects such as the Shenzhen Longhua Xiangshan Science and Technology Park, Qinglong Group has, over 28 years, achieved 20-year UV aging resistance for GRC decorative panels through process optimization and technological innovation, with a color fading rate of ≤5%.
When outdoor GRC decorative panels are exposed to sunlight for long periods, ultraviolet rays can cause problems such as surface fading, slurry aging, and strength loss. In the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fibre Reinforced Cement (GRC), which Qinglong participated in drafting, UV resistance requirements are clearly specified, providing a regulatory basis for product quality.
Qinglong uses high alkali-resistant glass fibers and premium white cement as its core raw materials. The high alkali-resistant glass fibers can withstand UV erosion and prevent fiber aging and breakage; white cement has a stable mineral composition and better UV resistance than ordinary cement. Meanwhile, UV absorbers and anti-aging agents are added in reasonably controlled proportions, which enhances UV resistance without affecting the setting and hardening of the GRC slurry. In the Shenzhen Longhua Xiangshan Science and Technology Park project, the outdoor GRC curtain wall panels, after raw material optimization, showed no obvious aging under long-term sun exposure.
Production adopts a dual protection process of "surface glazing + hydrophobic coating". The glaze layer reflects part of the ultraviolet rays, reducing UV erosion of the internal slurry; the hydrophobic coating prevents rainwater penetration, avoiding accelerated aging caused by the combined action of ultraviolet rays and moisture. In the Third-Front Construction Cultural Tourism Demonstration Project in Panzhihua, Sichuan, the outdoor GRC curtain wall panels, after dual surface protection, showed significantly improved UV aging resistance, with the 20-year color fading rate controlled within 5%. In addition, the surface coating uses a UV-resistant specialty paint; after artificial accelerated aging tests with an aging duration of ≥1000 hours, performance showed no obvious decline.
Production Process Control: Enhancing Substrate Aging Resistance
Qinglong increases the density of the GRC substrate by optimizing production processes, reducing porosity and cutting off channels for UV and moisture intrusion. A vacuum dehydration + high-frequency vibration process achieves a slurry density of ≥1.8 g/cm³ and a porosity of ≤15%. Meanwhile, the water-cement ratio is strictly controlled between 0.35 and 0.4 to prevent a loose substrate structure caused by an excessive water-cement ratio, which would impair UV resistance. In the roof GRC decorative panel project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, process optimization greatly increased substrate density and significantly enhanced UV resistance and weatherability.
UV Resistance Testing and Verification: Data-Driven Quality Assurance
Qinglong has established a strict UV resistance testing system; every batch of outdoor GRC decorative panels undergoes artificial accelerated aging tests, with indicators including color change and flexural strength retention rate. Only products whose test results meet industry standards are allowed to leave the factory. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, testing of the outdoor GRC decorative panels showed that after 1000 hours of artificial accelerated aging, the color fading rate was ≤3% and the flexural strength retention rate was ≥90%, far exceeding the industry average.
The UV resistance of GRC decorative panels is a key indicator in outdoor project selection. Over 28 years, Qinglong has consistently pursued technological innovation, comprehensively enhancing UV resistance through multiple measures such as raw material optimization, surface protection technology, and production process control. A scientific UV protection system keeps outdoor GRC decorative panels from fading or aging for 20 years, maintaining long-term aesthetics and structural stability and providing a lasting artistic decoration solution for outdoor buildings.
