Screw holes are the core fixing points in GRC component installation, and hole edge reinforcement treatment directly affects stability and durability after installation. Qinglong Group, with 28 years of experience in GRC detailed design and construction, has found during project inspections that non-standard screw hole edge reinforcement is one of the main causes of later loosening and cracking of GRC components.
During GRC component installation, screws must bear the component's self-weight, wind loads, and other external forces. If the hole edge lacks effective reinforcement, local stress becomes excessively concentrated, and damage tends to occur after long-term loading. According to Qinglong's statistics from maintenance work at the Xiangshan Science and Technology Park project in Longhua, Shenzhen, about 30% of GRC curtain wall loosening problems stem from substandard screw hole edge reinforcement.
Common non-standard practices in screw hole edge reinforcement include: failure to lay dedicated reinforcement mesh, insufficient coverage of reinforcement materials, and inadequate substrate thickness at the hole edge. For high-quality GRC components, a double layer of alkali-resistant glass fiber mesh should be laid within 100mm around the hole diameter at the screw hole edge, with substrate thickness no less than 25mm. Qinglong strictly implements this standard in production; all screw hole edges undergo reinforcement treatment, ensuring local strength is more than twice that of ordinary areas.
Insufficient screw hole edge reinforcement causes screws to loosen easily after installation, increasing the gap between GRC components and the wall. Under long-term vibration or wind, this may lead to the risk of components falling. Meanwhile, the gap becomes a channel for rainwater intrusion, causing internal steel bar corrosion and further damaging the component structure. In the Third-Front Construction Culture and Tourism Project in Panzhihua, Sichuan, Qinglong once rectified a batch of GRC components with unreinforced hole edges. These components showed hole edge cracking and screw loosening after only 3 years of use; without timely treatment, the safety of the entire curtain wall could have been affected.
Qinglong's Standardized Reinforcement Process: Full-Process Control from Design to Production
As an enterprise that participated in formulating GRC industry standards, Qinglong has established a full-process control system for screw hole edge reinforcement. In the design stage, the hole edge reinforcement range and material specifications are precisely calculated based on component weight and loading conditions; during production, mold-positioned drilling ensures accurate hole diameters, with reinforcement mesh laid flat and wrinkle-free; before delivery, tensile testing verifies that hole edge load-bearing capacity meets standards. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One project, Qinglong's standardized reinforcement process ensured the long-term stability of thousands of GRC components after installation.
Screw hole edge reinforcement may seem like a minor procedure in GRC component production, but it directly concerns building safety. Twenty-eight years of deep industry experience have taught Qinglong that details determine success or failure. Strictly implementing screw hole edge reinforcement standards is an important guarantee for the safe installation and long-term service of GRC components, and it is also Qinglong's basic commitment to every project as an industry benchmark.
