GRC curtain wall waterproofing must not only prevent external seepage but also ensure structural safety. Waterproofing performance is one of the core functions of GRC curtain walls; once leakage occurs, it not only affects indoor use of the building but may also cause component corrosion and structural damage, severely shortening the curtain wall's service life. As a Qinglong manufacturer with 28 years of GRC engineering experience, this article draws on project practices in rainy regions such as the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center and Sanya Festival Plaza to explain mainstream waterproofing methods and core technologies in detail.
#Material-Inherent Waterproofing: Building an Anti-Seepage Foundation from the Source Waterproofing of GRC curtain walls starts with the material itself, enhancing its own waterproofing performance through optimized formulations and production processes. In GRC material production, Qinglong adds specialized waterproofing agents and polymer modifiers to reduce the material's water absorption rate, keeping the volumetric water absorption of GRC components at ≤8% to meet high industry standards. Meanwhile, high-pressure spray molding technology is used to increase component density and reduce internal pores, fundamentally lowering the risk of water seepage. In the Panzhihua Third-Front Construction Cultural Tourism project, Qinglong GRC curtain wall panels remained leak-free despite long-term rain erosion, confirming the waterproofing effectiveness of the material itself. In addition, a specialized waterproof coating can be applied to component surfaces to form a protective film, further enhancing waterproofing performance—especially suitable for humid coastal environments.
#Joint Seal Waterproofing: Focus on Anti-Seepage at Key Points Leakage in GRC curtain walls mostly occurs at joints, making joint seal waterproofing a core element. There are two mainstream sealing methods: First, filling splicing gaps with high-performance silicone sealant or polyurethane sealant; the sealant must offer good weather resistance, elasticity, and adhesion. Qinglong selects quality sealants that meet national standards, ensuring gaps are thoroughly cleaned during construction and sealant joints are full and uniform, with width controlled at 8-15mm. Second, adopting a double-sealing structure of waterproof gasket + sealant, adding elastic waterproof gaskets at component splicing points combined with sealant to form dual protection—suitable for irregular gaps in double-curved and free-form curtain walls. The GRC components at Hainan Changying Global 100 Fantasy Park effectively resist seepage risks in high-humidity environments through this double-sealing structure.
#Structural Waterproofing Design: System-Level Anti-Seepage Protection Beyond material and joint waterproofing, structural design provides system-level waterproofing protection. Qinglong adopts three key structural designs: First, installing drip edges and drainage channels—a drip edge is designed at the lower edge of GRC components to prevent rainwater from flowing along the component surface into splicing joints, and concealed drainage channels are installed inside the curtain wall to channel any small amounts of infiltrated rainwater outside. Second, optimizing the installation structure—when installing GRC components, an "upper-over-lower" overlapping method is used to form a natural waterproofing slope, preventing rainwater backflow. Third, reserving expansion joints—expansion joints are reserved where the curtain wall is excessively long or at corners, filled with elastic waterproofing materials to prevent sealant cracking caused by thermal deformation. The 120,000-square-meter GRC roof at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center achieves long-term leak-free performance through the combination of structural waterproofing design and joint sealing.
Waterproofing treatment for GRC curtain walls is a systematic project involving materials, joints, and structure, requiring comprehensive control from source to system. With optimized material formulations, mature joint sealing technology, and scientific structural design, Qinglong provides reliable waterproofing solutions for all types of GRC curtain wall projects. In complex environments such as rainy and high-humidity conditions, professional waterproofing treatment will become the core guarantee for the long-term stable use of GRC curtain walls.
