The strong winds, heavy rain, and flying debris impacts brought by typhoon weather place stringent demands on the impact resistance of building exterior walls. With its excellent mechanical properties, UHPC material has become an ideal choice for building exterior walls in typhoon-prone areas. Qinglong Group, with 28 years of UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP project experience, analyzes the impact resistance of UHPC exterior walls and typhoon protection measures.
#Impact Resistance of UHPC Exterior Walls: Core Mechanical Advantages UHPC material itself possesses outstanding impact resistance, providing core protection against typhoon weather. UHPC exterior wall panels produced by Qinglong Group have a compressive strength of no less than 120MPa and a flexural strength of no less than 25MPa, with fracture toughness 10-20 times that of ordinary concrete. The addition of alkali-resistant glass fibres further enhances the material's impact resistance and toughness, effectively withstanding impacts from flying debris (such as gravel and branches) during typhoon weather without easy cracking or damage. According to third-party testing, Qinglong UHPC exterior wall panels with a thickness of 50mm can withstand the impact of a 1kg steel ball travelling at 10m/s with no obvious damage; in wind tunnel tests simulating a force-12 typhoon, the wall panels showed no deformation or loosening, with impact resistance far exceeding traditional exterior wall materials.
#Reinforced Connection System: Enhancing Overall Wind Resistance The firmness of the connection system is key to UHPC exterior walls withstanding typhoons. Qinglong Group adopts a triple fixing connection system of "hangers + bolts + bottom support bars". The hangers are made of high-strength stainless steel with anti-corrosion treatment, with a pull-out force exceeding 3kN, and at least 4 hangers are installed on each UHPC panel to ensure connection strength. The bolts are firmly connected to embedded parts in the substrate, with embedded parts having an anchoring depth of no less than 150mm, and the anchoring force is verified to meet standards through pull-out tests. Bottom support bars are installed at the bottom of the panels to form fallback protection; even if hangers fail under extreme circumstances, the support bars can prevent panels from falling. In the Hainan Poly Peninsula No. 1 project, Qinglong's reinforced connection system successfully withstood multiple typhoon strikes, with no loosening or detachment of the UHPC exterior walls.
#Specialized Design for Typhoon Areas: Adapting to Harsh Environments For the harsh environment of typhoon areas, Qinglong Group carries out specialized design optimization to enhance the typhoon resistance of UHPC exterior walls. In panel design, reasonable panel dimensions are adopted to avoid damage to oversized panels caused by excessive wind loads, with panel width typically controlled at 1.5-2.5m; in styling design, streamlined shapes are used as much as possible to reduce wind resistance, avoiding damage to sharp corners and protruding parts caused by concentrated wind pressure; in waterproofing design, a "three-layer waterproofing" scheme is adopted to enhance joint sealing performance and prevent leakage during typhoon rainstorms. In the Sanya Yingbin No. 1 project, through specialized design optimization, Qinglong ensured that the UHPC exterior walls maintained structural stability while achieving zero leakage during typhoon weather, performing excellently.
#Construction and Maintenance: Long-Term Typhoon Protection Construction quality and long-term maintenance are important guarantees for UHPC exterior walls to withstand typhoons over the long term. In typhoon area project construction, Qinglong Group strictly controls installation precision, keeping panel verticality and flatness errors within ±2mm to ensure uniform force distribution at connection nodes; during construction, work is avoided during typhoon season and rainstorms to ensure firm sealant adhesion. After delivery, regular maintenance services are provided to owners, with comprehensive inspections conducted before each typhoon season, focusing on checking corrosion of connection hangers and the ageing condition of sealants, promptly replacing damaged parts and reinforcing loose nodes. In multiple Hainan projects, through Qinglong's professional construction and maintenance, UHPC exterior walls have maintained good impact resistance after years of use, effectively coping with typhoon weather.
The impact resistance of UHPC exterior walls is fully capable of coping with typhoon weather. Through the mechanical advantages of the material itself, a reinforced connection system, specialized design, and professional construction and maintenance, comprehensive typhoon protection can be achieved. With 28 years of project experience in typhoon areas, Qinglong Group provides customized UHPC exterior wall solutions for buildings in typhoon areas, keeping buildings safe and stable even in harsh weather. Only by choosing a UHPC manufacturer with rich experience in typhoon areas can a project's typhoon resistance be ensured.
