The mold is the soul of UHPC component forming, and the choice of mold material directly determines the precision, texture, and production efficiency of the finished product. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP field, Qinglong Group fully understands the critical impact of mold materials on project quality. Drawing on the practice of more than a thousand major engineering projects, we break down the core value of commonly used mold materials for designers and owners.
1. Steel Molds: The Preferred Material for High-End UHPC Components ????️
Steel molds are the most widely used high-end material in UHPC component production, especially suitable for large landmark projects and mass production. Their core advantages lie in high strength and strong stability, enabling precise control of component dimensional deviations, with reuse of up to hundreds of times, lowering production costs in the long run. In the public art project of the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, Qinglong used custom steel molds to create UHPC sculptures over 3 meters tall, perfectly presenting complex artistic forms while ensuring surface smoothness and structural precision. In addition, steel molds have good thermal conductivity and can be combined with steam curing processes to accelerate UHPC hydration reactions and shorten production cycles—a feature fully validated in the 12,000-square-meter UHPC facade panel project for Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical's Hangzhou Industrial Park.
2. Polyurethane Molds: The Texture Master of Artistic Components ????
With their outstanding shaping capabilities, polyurethane molds are the preferred choice for UHPC faux stone, faux wood, and hollowed-out artistic components. Their advantage lies in precisely replicating fine textures, with a fidelity rate of over 95%. In the renovation project of Shanghai New World Century Plaza on Nanjing East Road, Qinglong used polyurethane molds to produce faux wood translucent panels, successfully recreating the details of wood grain and achieving artistic light transmission through light-guide rod embedding technology. Meanwhile, polyurethane molds are lightweight and easy to assemble and disassemble, suitable for producing complex irregular components, and are also wear-resistant and not easily deformed. In the UHPC hollowed-out panel project for the Ouargla Hotel in Algeria, they effectively ensured the forming quality of components with a hollow-out rate exceeding 50%.
3. Wooden Molds: A Cost-Effective Choice for Small and Medium-Sized Projects
With low cost and flexible processing, wooden molds are suitable for small and medium-sized UHPC components or highly customized projects. They can be quickly machined according to design drawings, are easy to modify and adjust, and can shorten the mold production cycle. In some municipal landscape projects, Qinglong used high-quality anti-corrosion treated wooden molds to produce components such as UHPC benches and flower beds, controlling project costs while meeting functional requirements. However, wooden molds have a limited number of reuse times and need to be paired with waterproof coatings to prevent UHPC slurry leakage, making them more suitable for small-batch production scenarios.
The choice of mold material should be comprehensively considered based on project scale, component design, production volume, and cost budget. As a national high-tech enterprise that participated in formulating UHPC industry standards, Qinglong Group possesses full-chain service capabilities from mold design and production to component forming, and can provide customized mold solutions according to project needs. Over 28 years, from the Wuhan Han Show Theater to the Yirui Biotechnology Building in Shenzhen, Qinglong has empowered more than a thousand projects with professional mold technology, witnessing the quality upgrade of UHPC components.
