As a new type of architectural decoration material, GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) achieves a comprehensive upgrade over traditional cement components in performance, craftsmanship, and application scenarios. With 28 years of full-chain GRC experience, Qinglong has witnessed and driven the innovative development of this material, providing designers and owners with more valuable architectural decoration solutions.
Performance differences are the core distinction between GRC and traditional cement components, mainly reflected in two dimensions: mechanical performance and durability. Traditional cement components are mainly composed of cement, sand, and gravel, with low flexural strength (usually ≤5MPa), high brittleness, easy cracking, and poor impact resistance; whereas GRC, by incorporating alkali-resistant glass fibers, increases flexural strength to over 20MPa, with tensile strength and impact resistance 3-5 times that of traditional cement components, along with excellent toughness and resistance to brittle fracture. In terms of durability, traditional cement components have high water absorption and poor freeze-thaw resistance, and are prone to weathering and spalling in harsh environments; Qinglong GRC products, through optimized material proportions and production processes, keep water absorption below 8%, achieve over 50 freeze-thaw cycles, and offer significantly improved weather resistance and corrosion resistance, with a service life of more than 50 years. In the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center project, Qinglong GRC roof components have remained intact after more than a decade of typhoons and high-temperature, high-humidity conditions, while some traditional cement decorative components from the same period have already cracked and fallen off.
Differences in production processes and shaping capabilities determine the application boundaries of the two. Traditional cement components are mostly cast-in-place or prefabricated, with simple processes but low precision, making it difficult to achieve complex shapes, and their rough surface texture offers limited decorative effect; GRC, on the other hand, adopts advanced processes such as spray-up molding and premix molding, combined with precise mold technology, to achieve complex shapes such as double curves, hollow-out patterns, and reliefs, with surface precision up to ±2mm, and can simulate the textures of various materials such as stone and wood. In the Nanning New Media Center project, Qinglong adopted parametric design and custom mold technology to produce thousands of unique double-curved GRC exterior wall panels, perfectly presenting the building's twisted, irregular form; in the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, the exceptional plasticity of GRC material transformed the "Dongguan sedge" element into a woven architectural skin—an effect that traditional cement components cannot achieve. In addition, GRC components weigh only 1/2 to 1/3 as much as traditional cement components, significantly reducing building loads and providing a safer decorative option for high-rise buildings and long-span structures.
Differences in application value make GRC the first choice for high-end architectural decoration. Traditional cement components are mainly used for low-grade decorative moldings and basic components, with limited application scenarios; GRC, with its advantages of light weight, high strength, flexible shaping, and good durability, is widely used in high-end public buildings such as grand theaters, convention and exhibition centers, museums, and commercial complexes, as well as curtain walls and landscape components of high-end residences. Qinglong GRC products have been successfully applied in numerous landmark projects such as the Wuhan Han Show Theatre, Shanghai Astronomy Museum, and Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center, and strategic partnerships have been formed with renowned real estate groups such as Poly, Vanke, and Star River. For owners, although the initial investment in GRC is slightly higher than that of traditional cement components, the whole-life-cycle cost is lower, with no need for frequent repairs and replacements; for designers, the shaping freedom and decorative effects of GRC provide unlimited possibilities for bringing architectural creativity to life. As a leading enterprise in the GRC industry, Qinglong takes "Creating Beautiful Architecture" as its mission, and through technological innovation and full-chain services, fully leverages the advantages of GRC materials, driving the architectural decoration industry toward greater efficiency, aesthetics, and durability.
