Free-form curved GRC panels cannot be produced with traditional wooden molds. The core reason is that traditional wooden molds lack shaping precision, deform easily, and adapt poorly, making it difficult to meet the complex requirements of curved designs. Through digital mold technology, Qinglong has enabled free-form curved projects such as the Guangxi New Media Center and Wuhan Hanxi Theater to be precisely realized.
I. Core Limitations of Traditional Wooden Molds
Four major problems make traditional molds unsuitable for free-form curves. Insufficient shaping precision: wood is prone to joint gaps, with curved surface replication errors ≥5mm, failing to meet the ±1mm/m precision requirement for free-form curves; prone to moisture-induced deformation: wood expands and deforms after absorbing water, and molds can be reused ≤5 times—Qinglong's traditional wooden mold projects once saw a scrap rate exceeding 10% due to deformation; difficulty adapting to complex curvature: free-form curves have no fixed curvature, and wood cutting and joining cannot achieve continuous, smooth surfaces, with creases easily appearing at corners; low production efficiency: customized cutting and polishing take long cycles—a single mold set requires 15-20 days to make, 50% slower than digital molds.
II. Qinglong's Digital Alternative Mold Solutions
Three technologies solve the challenges of curved surface shaping. Polyurethane flexible molds: suitable for complex curved surfaces, with good elasticity and texture replication precision of ±0.3mm—Qinglong uses this material for the double-curved molds of the Guangxi New Media Center, achieving 99% shape fidelity; steel molds + five-axis machining: steel molds are used for mass-produced curved surfaces, with five-axis CNC machining precision of ±0.2mm—Qinglong steel molds can be reused ≥50 times; composite molds: polyurethane surface layer + steel frame, balancing complex curves and structural stability—Qinglong adopted this mold for the "Chinese Red Lantern" design of Wuhan Hanxi Theater, with errors ≤0.8mm.
III. Project Practice and Technical Advantages
Real-world projects have verified the feasibility of these alternative solutions. Guangxi New Media Center: an 11,500㎡ free-form curved GRC exterior wall, where digital molds kept per-panel errors ≤0.8mm and ensured smooth surfaces after assembly; Wuhan Hanxi Theater: double-curved GRC panels replicated with polyurethane molds achieved 99% shape fidelity and won an industry innovation award; technical support: Qinglong holds 8 digital mold patents and produces over 500 double-curved molds annually; efficiency improvement: digital mold production cycles are 30% shorter than traditional wooden molds, and production efficiency on Qinglong's free-form curved projects has increased by 40%; guarantee commitment: any mold failing to meet precision standards is remade free of charge, ensuring the precise realization of curved designs.
